Santa Approaches Elderly Man, Drops To One Knee In Moment Onlookers Would Never Forget

Gina Wilbur was handling a little holiday shopping at the Delaware Concord Mall when she thought she would capture a picture of Santa Claus while he was walking along.

She was looking to remind her stepson of just how extraordinary the season of Christmas really is, but little did she knew that she was going to snap a photo of Santa on this secret mission to do an extremely good deed

Gina was both delighted and teary-eyed as she witnessed Santa presenting an unsuspecting 93-year-old man with a sweet gift. The gift was not something manufactured by North Pole elves. It came right from Santa's cuddly and warm heart!

Santa was involved in the Christmas workshop held at the mall when he saw 93-year-old Bob Smiley alone on a chair. He stopped everything he was doing at that moment and hurried over to pay his respects to the WWII veteran. After taking a knee and locking hearts with the venerable gentleman, Santa passionately told Bob precisely what he wanted to hear that day. Gina recalled on her Facebook profile:

"I heard Santa explaining in a tender voice to the gentleman about all the other people he knew who served. They shook hands with heartfelt gratefulness and he thanked him for his service while returning to the kids. It was the best moment of the day."

The photo Gina posted went viral soon after and everyone was moved by the gracious moment she had seized. It went on to be the shining light of many on an otherwise dreary day!

What Happened Next...

Santa detailed in an interview with Jannaphr Frederick of FOX 29 how veterans such as Bob deserve all the gratitude in the world for their selfless duty.

"We ought to show our debt of thankfulness to men such as Bob. They have made such a life-altering choice to give themselves up and making the decision to be willing to lay down their life for other individuals."

Bob put his own life on the line willingly with the guidance of General George S. Patton and his renown WWII campaigns. He has an easy-going, "Awww, shucks" type of attitude when it comes to the sort of attention he's been getting!

Upwards of 16 million men and women went on to serve the nation throughout WWII. This blushing veteran talked about how all 35 boys in his graduating class entered into the military. He does not feel like his decision to serve in the military was anything noteworthy or special.

"In my time it was a duty. All of us went, we all joined. All boys in the graduating class of my high school served."

Bob might be one of the small few WII vets left to tell the story today, but veterans are everywhere you look! With the upcoming holiday season upon us, taking the time to show your support is perhaps one of the best Christmas presents we can surprise anyone with. Do you have a special someone in mind?
