Actor Sam Elliott celebrated his 75th birthday today. The star got his first acting credit when he was only 25-years-old, he frequented western movies due to his cowboy charisma and deep, southern drawl.

Elliot also went on to perform in countless other critically acclaimed films, however, in his nearly 50-year-long career, he was never nominated for an oscar until last year in the monster hit "A Star Is Born."

Elliott's southern style fit right in as he played the fed up older brother of Bradley Cooper's alcohol-addicted country-singing character Jackson Maine. The actor received an Oscar nomination for best-supporting actor for his role in the film. Elliott told Variety how Bradley Cooper wanted Elliot for the part due to his Texan twang voice; Cooper even hired a voice coach so he could emulate Elliott. “

I ended up going to his home and sat with him for a couple of hours, he turned this thing on and it sounded very much like me…he’d committed to my voice before I was set for the part,” Elliott said.

Elliott said to Deadline of working on the film, “I think my biggest takeaway is just how fortunate I am. Number one, to still be in the game, but to have an opportunity to work with two people like Bradley and Stefani (Lady Gaga), it’s just extraordinary. Fifty years into the game and all of a sudden to have anything to do with this, to be connected with a film like this, it’s just a wonderful gift.”

In addition to a star is born Elliott has amassed over 100 acting credits throughout his career. Some of his biggest films include, "Hulk"(2003), "Ghost Rider,"(2007) "Thank You For Smoking,"(2006), "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"(1969), and countless others according to Rotten Tomatoes. At 75-years-old the mustached-renowned actor is showing no signs of slowing down.
