Salma Hayek is one of the most successful and gorgeous actresses on the planet, but she actually led a rather humble life in her native Mexico before becoming famous. Having worked on her craft since the age of 18, Hayek's passion for acting eventually propelled her into the entertainment stratosphere in the ‘90s.
Throughout her career, Hayek has been known for being one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, and that hasn’t changed, even as she entered her 50s. The gorgeous star is still as radiant and ravishing as she was in her younger years, while also exuding strength, wisdom, maturity and grace. The 56-year-old actress is still in incredible shape and continues to attract new fans through her work, past and present.
Hayek was best known for playing the beguiling love interest in films such as “Desperado,” “From Dusk Till Dawn” and “Wild Wild West,” but won critical acclaim for her dramatic turn in 2002’s “Frida.” She proved she was more than just a pretty face, nabbing award wins and nominations for her portrayal of Mexican surrealist painter Frida Kahlo.
Hayek is married to French business magnate François-Henri Pinault. The actress confirmed their engagement on March 9, 2007, and at the same time announced that she was pregnant. Hayek gave birth to their daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, on Sept. 21, 2007, in Los Angeles, California. The couple married on Valentine's Day in 2009 in Paris, France. They renewed their vows that same year in Venice, Italy.
The couple has been largely private about their relationship in the past, but they share a beautiful daughter named Valentina, who is now 15 years old. Read on to find out how the Latina icon chooses to keep her family humble, even when it comes to Christmas festivities.

Hayek became a mother at the age of 41 when she and her husband Pinault, who is the chairman and CEO of French-based multinational Kering, the parent company of luxury brands Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Yves Saint Laurent. As of December 2022, his net worth was estimated at $35.7 billion.
Hayek is also the stepmother to Pinault’s two children from a previous marriage to Dorothée Lepère and one child from a relationship with model Linda Evangelista.
While promoting her 2015 movie “Tale of Tales,” in which Hayek played a queen who was desperate to have children, the “Fools Rush In” star revealed she could relate to her character as she, too, knew “that yearning, that longing and that pain.” She elaborated:
“I had a child late in life. In ‘Tale Of Tales,’ I identified with my character’s desperate desire to have a child, and maybe feeling that you could never be happy or complete, that your life is not complete, without this. … I always wanted to have a lot of children, and I was not able to. My body, as a miracle, had one. The huge blessing I’ve had is that my husband has three other children. So I have four. And they are all so different.”
Hayek said she takes great pains to ensure she remains present and enjoys all the time she spends with her daughter. “I think I’m a better mother because I had her later,” she said in 2019. “But I do get tired. I’m not going to lie.” She also told the Guardian she and her husband have never gone more than a week apart from their daughter, showing just how much the superstar has come to embrace motherhood.

Hayek has made no secret of the fact that being a mother is her most important role in life. She said she loved being a wife and homemaker “because it's my choice. My friends who don't have children say it's impossible to get together with me because I don't want to talk about anything else except motherhood. But being a mother is more exhausting than working, and sometimes I push myself too hard and burn myself out. I can appreciate how exhausting it must be for women who have to do everything themselves all the time.”
However, Hayek revealed – to her own surprise – her children remain modest, despite the fact they live in a household where they want for nothing. She told Page Six:
“My kids are humble. I don’t know how I did it but I think that what was great is that they have a big spectrum of things,” she said.
Hayek added this is true even during the Christmas holidays when splurging would seem more than justified. “So for Christmas, I like them to open millions of presents,” she said, “but some of them are very small and meaningful, some of them are very silly and playful and then they get one or two really nice ones.”
Despite all her career successes and the affluence she married into, Hayek has not let go of her own humble past and is keen to pass on the lessons of her past to her children. She also doesn’t let comparisons to others in similar positions as her get her down either.
“Girl, I am too busy to compare or compete with these other women,” she said. “I have four kids and 30 animals, so I just do my thing.”
