Good friends are hard to find, especially in Hollywood. That’s why when you find a good friend, a friend worth fighting for— you hold on for dear life. That’s why actresses Penelope Cruz and Selma Hayek have an extremely close friendship.

Cruz is an incredibly talented actress, having starred in plenty of films and television shows over the course of her 30-year career. She was born on April 28, 1974, in the town of Alcobendas in the province of Madrid, Spain. When she was just 15 years old, she was signed by a talent agent and made her acting debut on television the following year. She has appeared in both American and Spanish films such as the comedy "Waking Up in Reno" in 2002, the action-adventure film "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" in 2011, and as Donatella Versace in the TV series "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story."

Hayek is also one of the most successful and gorgeous actresses on the planet today. Born on Sep. 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, Hayek started to work on her craft at the age of 18. Hayek's passion for acting eventually propelled her into stardom and although she's at the top. She has starred in movies such as “Grown Ups,” Fools Rush In,” “Wild Wild West,” and many other movies throughout the 90s and 2000s.

Although both women come from different areas of the world with different backgrounds, they have found a friendship to last a lifetime. During an interview in 2022, Cruz opened up about how she and Hayek met and grew to be so close.

"I got here with a ticket to make a movie, I had my return ticket, so I was coming here for two months and I didn't know anyone here,"  Cruz told television host Ellen Degeneres on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Hayek was extremely kind and even offered to give Cruz a ride from the airport to her hotel. Just this gesture alone makes it known that Hayek is an extremely nice friend.

“She picked me up at the airport and she said, 'You're not going to a hotel, you're coming to my house because this is hard at the beginning and you're going to feel very lonely,’” she remembered. Cruz added, “So — she took me to her house. That's why now we're like sisters."

Coming from overseas and a different culture, Cruz was understandably scared about arriving in Los Angeles.

"It was amazing, you know, that somebody that I didn't know — only on the phone — she made sure that she picked me up at the airport and she didn't let me go to the hotel," she said. She was so nervous that she crawled into Hayek’s bed the first night. "And I ended up also sleeping in her room because I was scared," the actress admitted.

"And in the middle of the night, she said I was holding her hand because I was afraid, I was dreaming, I don't know," the actress told DeGeneres. The two actresses have been extremely close ever since. The two even went on to star in “Bandidas,” which came out in 2006.

Both Cruz and Hayek are very busy women as working actresses, mothers, philanthropists, and more. Yet the women still have great and unique memories together. Cruz has spent a great amount of time at her friend's home but also getting to know her family, including her fury family.

"And then Salma has one at home, and she invites us to feed the owl with these little rats and give it to my daughter to give the rat to the owl. [It was] a little traumatic for her," she said.

While Cruz has talked about the long relationship, Hayek has also posted about the two’s important friendship.

Hayek has posted to her large Instagram account of 21.2 million followers a few times to show off the pair's bond. One year she posted, “Now for real happy birthday 👑P Ahora si feliz cumpleaños a mi adorada amiga @penelopecruzoficial 🎂💃🏾🎈,” she wrote.

Hayek also posted that good friend like Cruz can be hard to find. “Good #friends are forever Los buenos #amigos son para siempre. #spain #mexico #penelopecruz,” she posted.
