Salma Hayek Becomes a Grandmother at 59 & Already Has a Nickname for Her Grandson That Has Everyone Smiling

Salma Hayek Pinault turns 60 on September 2, 2026. Weeks before that milestone, she received one she had not been expecting quite so soon: a grandson.

Hayek, born Sept. 2, 1966, became a step-grandmother in July 2026 when her stepson François Pinault Jr., 38 — the son of her husband François-Henri Pinault from his first marriage — welcomed a baby boy with his wife, Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck. The couple had quietly become parents approximately a month before Lara revealed the news on Instagram on August 12, 2026. "My husband (the world's coolest François) and our son (the world's cutest François)… our first month as parents," she wrote. The post also appeared to confirm that Lara and François Jr. had secretly married — she referred to him as her husband for the first time publicly.

The baby's name is François — the third François Pinault in consecutive generations. Hayek had her own plan for what to call him. On August 16, she posted a video to Instagram of herself holding the sleeping newborn and speaking to him in Spanish — whispering, asking him what he was dreaming about — and announced his nickname in the caption. "We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of François'. Although I will call him Panchito. He seems to love it, and I cannot love him more."

The "fourth living generation" detail is the one that stayed with people. François-Henri Pinault's father, François Pinault — the legendary French businessman and art collector who founded the Kering luxury group — is still alive at 88. Grandfather, son, grandson, and great-grandson. Four generations of François, alive at once. And one grandmother who has already decided she is calling him Panchito.

Hayek married François-Henri Pinault in February 2009 in Paris and became a stepmother to his three children — Mathilde, 25, François Jr., 38, and Augustin, 19 — in addition to welcoming their daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault, now 18, in 2007. She has spoken at length about what blended family life has meant to her.

"I always wanted to have a lot of children, and I was not able to," she told Red magazine in 2017. "My body, as a miracle, had one. The huge blessing I've had is that my husband has three other children. So I have four. And they are all so different."

The blended family extends further still. Augustin Evangelista — son of François-Henri Pinault and supermodel Linda Evangelista, born in 2006 — is also part of the picture. Hayek and Evangelista have been publicly warm about each other and their shared connection to the Pinault family, photographed together at Augustin's graduation and other family milestones — a dynamic both women have handled with grace.

The arrival of Panchito adds a new layer to a family that has always been, by Hayek's account, one of the great unexpected gifts of her life. She turned the camera on herself and the sleeping baby and asked him what he was dreaming about. The world, watching, wondered the same thing.

Hayek will turn 60 on September 2. She is going into that birthday as a step-grandmother, a mother of one, a stepmother of three, and the woman who coined the nickname Panchito. Not a bad way to close out her fifties.
