Saleswoman Deals With Bride's Mother As She Tries To Buy Carbon Copy Of Her Daughter's Wedding Dress

Oct 19, 2021 by apost team

When you think about a wedding, you probably think about the cake, the venue and, of course, the bride's dress. While there is definitely a lot more that goes into planning a wedding, such as flowers, music, and food, the wedding dress is by far one of the most memorable and recognizable facets of a wedding.

It goes without saying that since most wedding dresses are white, no other guest should wear that color unless the couple getting married clearly stated that it was OK. Another unspoken rule is that you shouldn't wear a wedding dress to someone else's wedding. It's impolite to try to upstage the bride at her own wedding.
This is common knowledge, of course, but unfortunately, time and again, other people always try to usurp the bride and make the wedding all about them. The most common culprits are sisters-in-law and mothers-in-law, but sometimes, the bride's best friends and immediate families tend to create drama for the bride instead.

There are hundreds of stories all over the internet about brides who have had to ban or cut contact with their loved ones because of such events, and one story was uploaded onto Reddit in 2019 which told the story of a mother of the bride who created major problems for the bride before the wedding. The story was told from the point of view of a salesgirl at a wedding dress shop, who was present for the entire event. In the end, the mother of the bride had to be banned from the wedding.

In the post, which was uploaded on the subreddit r/entitledparents, the original poster (OP) wrote, "So I sold wedding dresses on and off for 5 years. I have a ton of stories. This one is one of the worst though. Yes it will seem fake because it's so outlandish. But I assure you it's not. This is an old story about 1.5 years ago before I 'retired.'"

She then introduced the case of the story:

"Me= spine of steel stylist B= bride MOB= mother of bride/EM M= manager."

She continued with her story by writing, "So at this point I was about 2 months from leaving as I was entering my senior year of college. I have two young daughters. And really [expletive] family and in-Laws. At this point I have seen it all, but have run into two bridezillas I'm 5 years. It's mostly MOB's that are awful."

She added:

"So to set the scene, B had come in a month prior and picked out her dream dress. MOB/EM was in to pick out her dress. Normal appointments for MOB are an hour...THREE hours later nothing has worked."

She then wrote out what happened next in the form of a dialogue:

"MOB: I'm really disappointed in lack of options. Nothing is fancy enough for B's wedding. Don't you know what you are doing.

Me: I'm sorry mrs. mob but I have shown you everything that your daughter has recommended in every color that you can get.

MOB: but it's really MY day. I'm the mother of the bride. I need to look the best."

The conversation continued, "Me (remember I had an end date): no it's for B. She's supposed to look the best, you had your time to shine. This isn't about you.

MOB: well aren't you a little [expletive]. I want to speak to your manager."

When the manager approached the mother of the bride, she had gone towards the bridal dresses section to pick out a dress for herself and expected to be accommodated for the inconvenience by getting an $1800 ball gown for free. Her erratic and rude behavior led to the salesgirl calling the bride, who was mortified by her mother's behavior. She promptly arrived at the bridal store. When the mother of the bride found out, she was furious.

"She throws a ball gown at my head and comes after me. My manager body checks her. We call the police and MOB is escorted out with charges. B apologizes."

The salesgirl also added an update to the story and wrote, "She comes in after the wedding and says her mom wasn't invited and she now has a restraining order against her."

Naturally, there were a lot of comments about the story, and the top comment stated, "Holy $#!+ I've heard of similar stories, MoBs feeling that they aren't getting enough attention (though usually it's the groom's mom trying to upstage the bride). This is ridiculous. Good on you, keeping calm and level headed."

Another comment read, "There needs to be more bridal stylists like you, your amazing and I'm so glad you stayed loyal to the bride it gets so annoying when the mother of the bride or groom try to upstage the bride."
