A group of friends went boating to celebrate the Independence Day holiday weekend in Maryland, but they ended up helping a cute baby raccoon.

A crafty crew member had the clever idea to turn a life jacket into a liferaft for the scared critter to hold onto so they could save it. With the raccoon clutching the life preserver, they were able to tow the young animal towards the shore without having to handle it. They then turned him over to a dinghy to finish the trip back to dry land and safety.

“During the early morning hours of July 4, 2016, one of our crew aboard our boat heard a yelping sound and at first it sounded like birds overhead,” DeltaBlues3 shared on YouTube. “Several hours later we finally found the source of the cry a young raccoon treading water on the side of the boat. Not wanting to pick it up out of the water, we threw it a life preserver to climb upon and then towed it to land.”

The poor helpless baby raccoon was left stranded, swimming around in the water. Most likely cold, tired, and hungry he probably would not have lasted much longer in the water. Luckily the boaters arrived just in time.

Thanks to these helpful boaters this very frightening adventure ended on a very positive note. How much does this animal rescue story warm your heart? Do you have any similar experiences?
