If your heart doesn’t melt at the sign of a rescue pup in a shelter, then you might just not have one. Seeing an animal just waiting and hoping to find its forever family is something that touches all of us in some way, some more deeply than others. Unfortunately, many dogs come into shelters after experiencing traumatic events or abandonment.

Dogs have the biggest hearts and shelters throughout the country go above-and-beyond to take care of these pups while they wait patiently for a kind person to take them in. All they really want is a second chance to spread the love they have to some humans.

Sarah Sleime is a frequent visitor to her local animal shelter, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control. Located in North Carolina, the shelter is often close to capacity and there are a great many furry residents that come to the shelter after having a rough time in life.

Sarah has always been incredibly passionate about animals. She feels that one of her life’s callings is to do all she can to help these shelter pups know that they are loved while they wait to be adopted.

Every once and a while a particular pooch stands out to Sarah for one reason another, typically something in the dog’s disposition melts her heart on sight. One of those dogs was a Pitbull mix named Cinnamon that she fell in love with at first sight.

Cinnamon’s darling face and sad story shook Sarah to the core.

“Every time I stopped to talk to her and say I was sorry her eyes would fill with tears."

Before being rescued by the shelter, Cinnamon was likely used for breeding. Cinnamon was 7 years old and she was abandoned at the shelter after clearly giving birth to many litters of pups. However, none of her puppies were dropped off with her.

Sarah knew right away that she had to do everything in her power to make sure that this special dog found its forever home.

Sarah noticed that not only did Cinnamon’s eyes show her longing to be part of a human family, but the dog actually seemed to tear up when Sarah would stop and talk to her. Sarah used the power of social media to capture a video of Cinnamon to post on Facebook.

The video spread quickly. One of Sarah’s friends, Meghan Shelton, decided to adopt the dog the very next day. She and her family were shocked when they first met Cinnamon. The sweet dog acted as if she had known her new human family her entire life.

Cinnamon went from a sad dog to a happy member of the Shelton family, always smiling and wagging her tail.

How great is the role that pets play in our lives? They are such incredibly loving creatures. Share a story or video of your furry loved one and how they bring joy to your life. We love hearing your stories!
