Ryan Reynolds Hopeful 4th Child Will Be A Girl But Reveals He & Blake Lively ‘Never Find Out’ Before Birth

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are one of Hollywood’s most delightful – not to mention aesthetically pleasing – married couples. Since meeting on the set of the film “Green Lantern,” they’ve been enamored with one another. Reynolds, who was married to Scarlett Johansson at the time, filed for divorce in 2010 before marrying “Gossip Girl” star Lively in 2012. With their hilarious social media posts poking fun at each other, as well as their entertaining and down-to-earth videos and interviews, the pair are clearly having a grand old time being married. Add to the mix three baby girls – James, Inez and Betty – and you can be sure the Reynolds household is never short on fun.

The couple also constantly gush about each other to the press. Lively told Vogue “everything we do in life we do together,” and added, “I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.” Lively also told Marie Claire: 

“I knew he would always be my best friend for my whole life. That was the biggest thing to me. I’d never known anything like the friendship that I had with him. I could like him as much as I loved him.”

Reynolds, meanwhile, shared the strangeness of his first date with his wife-to-be with Entertainment Weekly. He said: “We were buddies then. … We went on a double date. She was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl. That was the most awkward date (from their perspective) probably because we were just like fireworks coming across.”

Prior to having their first child together, Lively was already envisioning plans for a large family with her husband Reynolds as she herself comes from one – she’s one of five siblings. In September 2014, she described to Marie Claire what her baby goals were: “I gotta get started. If I could spit out a litter of kids, I would." As fate would have it, she announced she was pregnant with her first child the very next month. She gave birth to James in December 2014, which makes her 8 now, then a second daughter Inez, who is now 6, and the youngest is Betty, 3.

Meanwhile, People reported Lively had kept the fourth pregnancy quite hush-hush, even among friends, but that it's no wonder given the celebrity homemaker’s love of children. "Even her friends were surprised that she was pregnant again," a source told the outlet. "She kept it very quiet."

The source added Lively was a "really attentive mom" and that "her kids are her first priority over everything. You never would think that Blake Lively, this superstar and beautiful woman would be this regular person who cooks dinner every night and takes care of the family, but she is really wonderful with the kids."

The insider continued and said Lively “wants to be that old-fashioned kind of mom. … When the kids are out or sleeping that's when she makes time to do work stuff." 

Lively herself has joked about her penchant for having children, as she said at an event discussing creativity in September 2022: “I just like to create. Whether that's baking or storytelling or businesses or humans, I just really like creating."

As for Reynolds, he too expressed his excitement at welcoming his fourth child with Lively. In an interview on "Today," a presenter broached the subject by stating Reynolds was having another child, to which he jokingly exclaimed, “This is how I find out?” When quizzed about whether the child would be another girl, he said: “I don’t know. We never find out until (they’re born).” He then expressed hope that it will be another baby girl, as he said, “I know girls, so I'm kind of hoping that.”

The interviewers then asked him about his upbringing, raising the fact that he grew up in a house with all brothers. “Which is why I speak from experience,” Reynolds said, adding, “I love my well-being and my home … I was the youngest of four and we were just arsonists and firemen.” One of the presenters then called Reynolds “the ultimate girl dad” to which Reynolds, beaming with pride, responded, “Yes.”

This is not the first time Reynolds has raved about fatherhood. During a discussion with LinkedIn in 2021, Reynolds said he has no problems with the little mundane things when it comes to children. “I really enjoy being a present dad,” he said. “I love taking them to school in the morning. I love picking them up.”

Reynolds constantly posts hilarious tweets about dad life as well. “Being a father is the single greatest feeling on earth. Not including those wonderful years I spent without a child, of course,” he tweeted in 2016. 

He also told Access Hollywood in 2020 “never in a million years would have imagined” becoming a father to three little girls. “For me to have three daughters has been such a ride. I love every second of it.”
