Ryan Reynolds And Betty White Joked About Having A Relationship - He Couldn't 'Get Over' Crush On Her

Jan 17, 2022 by apost team

Betty White was one of the most iconic actresses and comedians of all time. She was beloved by everyone who knew her, and it's clear that she will leave an everlasting impression on the world for many years to come. White was a trailblazer, producing her own television show as well as starring in plenty of shows and films throughout her amazing career, including "Hot in Cleveland" and "The Golden Girls." Whether it was being seen adoringly by fans or respected by her fellow co-stars and peers, White was surely someone who others truly cared for.

Ryan Reynolds starred opposite Sandra Bullock and alongside White in the 2009 romantic comedy film "The Proposal." The film was hilarious, and White's comedic timing was as perfect and witty as ever. It's not uncommon for co-stars to grow pretty close together during the long days and months they spend together while filming, and it seemed like this was especially the case for Reynolds and White.

The pair have always been funny on their own, but were even more amazing together when they played grandmother and grandson in "The Proposal." However, before her passing on Dec. 31, 2021, White used to joke about how Reynolds would never be able to get over his crush on her. While White was known for her beautiful romance with Allen Ludden prior to his passing, she has also been very vocal about her crush on actor Robert Redford. Still, it seems like there were plenty of jokes about her relationship with Reynolds that she and her previous co-star couldn't help but make.

Her Impeccable Timing

Over the years, Reynolds has continued to joke about his relationship with White, hilariously leading people to think that they two were once an actual item. According to PEOPLE, Reynolds has even referred to the late actress as his "ex-girlfriend," despite the fact that the two once played grandmother and grandson opposite each other in "The Proposal."

The two clearly became close during their time filming together alongside fellow star Bullock. While White was known for being unbelievably funny, it's clear that her previous co-stars really respected her charm, wit, humor and talent.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Reynolds said that he has been a fan of White "for as long as I can remember." He added, "I heard that scripts for 'Golden Girls' were only 35 pages, which makes sense because so many of the laughs come from Betty simply looking at her castmates." Reynolds also called White "a typical Capricorn," and joked about how her actions matched her zodiac sign. "Sleeps all day," he explained. "Out all night boozing and snacking on men."

Bullock also had plenty of sweet words to say about White, specifically about her "ridiculous" comedic timing, according to PEOPLE. "Timing isn't easy in comedy, because you have to navigate other people's timing," she explained. "Betty pivots like I have never seen, making it look seamless. The rest of us just remain silent and pray we're not cut out of the scene." Bullock also said that White was a close friend of hers, and referred to her as a "loving, decent, optimistic, inclusive hilarious human being."

Loved By Many

While Reynolds is known for being sarcastic and carrying on silly jokes, White has never shied away from making people laugh, either, and was in on a pretty long-winded joke with Reynolds for more than a decade. Although Reynolds and Bullock played lovers in "The Proposal," Reynolds and White pretended that they were the ones with an off-screen relationship. The pair previously joked about being in a former relationship together, and what the aftermath of that relationship was like. White even said that Reynolds playfully pined for her.

On Dec. 30, 2021, Reynolds tweeted, "I'm absolutely sick of the media exploiting past relationships just to drive clicks." He referred to the PEOPLE article that was published the day prior, referring to his "ex-girlfriend" White, and how it seemed like he would never be able to move past his crush on the funny woman.

White had said, "I've heard Ryan can't get over his thing for me, but Robert Redford is The One." During her life, White had been married a handful of times, but her longest and most beautiful romance was with Ludden. It was evident that the two had something special together, and her passing was hard to move past. However, toward the later years in her own life, White joked about having a crush on Redford, although nothing ever came of it.

According to PEOPLE, her longtime executive personal assistant named Kiersten Mikelas said that White was even given a lifesize cutout of Redford for her 99th birthday. "For a long time, we had him in the office entryway," Mikelas said. "When she came in, she'd say, 'Hi, sweetheart.'"
