Rutger Hauer, ‘Blade Runner’ Co-Star, Has Passed Away At 75

Rutger Hauer, known for his role in the 1982 film "Blade Runner" has passed away at the age of 75. His website confirmed that the actor died on July 19th at his home in The Netherlands after suffering from an illness. 

Hauer's agent, Steve Kenis confirmed to Variety that a funeral for Hauer was held this past Wednesday. Hauer was known for his expertise in portraying menacing characters, apart from his "Blade Runner" performance, the actor also appeared in the 2005 film "Sin City."

Hauer was a natural at playing scary characters, his career was launched to stardom when he starred in the Dutch box-office hit, "Turkish Delight," (1972) Variety reports. He eventually made it to Hollywood when he was cast for Sylvester Stallone's 1981 film "Nighthawks."  In later years, Hauer took on the roles in vampire productions such as the TV show "True Blood."

The Dutch actor is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ineke. His website stated,

"One of Rutger’s last wishes was that Starfish should continue its charity activity and its fight against the AIDS disease, and with Ineke’s precious help, involvement and direction we will follow Rutger’s wish and will do our best to carry on Rutger’s inestimable legacy."
