"Rude" Sign On Door Of Daycare Is Going Viral - What Do You Think?

A daycare center in Hockley, Texas is getting a lot of attention for a sign they posted at their facility after a parent snapped a picture and posted it to social media.

Rather than sharing information regarding the children, the sign had a strong message for parents who exhibit what the center considers to be bad behavior. While some parents agree with the sign's message, others are appalled and are voicing their opinions online.

Daycare Staff Had Harsh Words for Parents

The sign in question read as follows:

"You are picking up your child! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!! Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child?? We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone. We have heard a child say, 'Mommy, mommy, mommy...' and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child. It is appalling. Get off your phone!!"

Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz, who took a picture of the sign and posted it to her Facebook page, told CNN that she was shocked but not upset by the blunt message and even agreed with it. In fact, she realized as she read it that she indeed had her phone in her hands as she walked into the daycare center.

She thought the sign was a good indication that daycare staff cared so deeply about the kids that they didn't mind offending parents who use their phones during what should be special moments with their children.

The Internet Responds

Within days, more than 1 million people had responded to Juliana's post, and while some were also in agreement with the sign's message to parents, not everyone thought it was appropriate.

One angry comment pointed out that parents might be using their phones because they are dealing with emergencies or work and it isn't anyone's business or place to reprimand parents in this way.

The Bigger Picture

Although she herself was guilty of using her phone while picking up her daughter, Juliana still believed that daycare staff had done the right thing by posting their harsh words to parents. She never anticipated that her post would receive so much attention, and the fact that it has begs the question: do we use our phones too much?

The fact that so many people have expressed such strong feelings about this incident speaks volumes about the role that phones have in our society. Let us know what you think, and don't forget to help us spread the word by showing this story to your friends and family!
