A family of Kansas City Royals fans may have saved the life of a helpless puppy one day while catching the home team in action at Kauffman Stadium.

According to the Kansas City Star, Royals fan Josh Lee and his wife Erin were leaving the baseball game during the beginning of the eighth inning with their son Hudson and brother Michael Warner when they heard a whimpering noise coming from a nearby car. The family did a little investigating and finally found that the source of the whimpers was a sweet puppy trapped in a car.

The temperature had already reached 90 degrees that day so the family knew that they needed to get the pup out of the car quickly. Fortunately for the 16-week-old puppy, the window was cracked just enough that the do-gooders were able to squeeze their hands through and force the window to open enough to rescue the puppy.

The family then called the police and alerted them of the situation. Royals staff stayed with the puppy and gave it water. Thankfully, Lee and his family of rescuers were able to get the puppy out because the game ended up going on for 13 innings in the win for the Royals.

A note was left on the car to alert the dog's owners that the puppy was waiting for them at guest services. However, the owners never even went to claim their poor puppy. Instead, Lee's brother was happy to adopt the pup and give it a good home.

Royals director of guest services Anthony Mozzicato, told the Kansas City Star that it is not unusual for dog owners to leave their pups out in their cars while catching a game.

“I’m not sure why people do it,” he told the publication. “It puts us in a really awkward situation.”
