Royal Titles Archie Will Inherit Some Day

May 20, 2020 by apost team

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was not given a title at birth. He is seventh in line to the British Throne and will possibly inherit his father's three titles in the future.

As the firstborn to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, one-year-old Archie is seventh in line to the British throne. Now that Harry and Meghan have left the British Royal Family as Senior Royals, the title "Royal Highness" is no longer applicable to them. However, they have not been relinquished of their titles completely. With that in mind, here are the titles that Archie can possibly inherit in the future.

When his grandfather, Charles, becomes King, Archie automatically becomes the Prince of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and a Royal Highness. When his father Prince Harry passes on, Archie will inherit his three titles, as Harry received hereditary titles when he married Meghan in May 2018. They are Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton in Scotland, and Baron, or Lord Kilkeel in Northern Ireland.

It is important to note, however, that these can only be passed on in the male line, so if Meghan and Harry have a daughter, she could not inherit any of the titles.

Furthermore, once Prince William, Archie's uncle, ascends the throne, "Duke of Sussex" will no longer be a royal title. Should Meghan and Harry have any more children, they will not have the right to use any of the titles later either, as they will only be passed on to the eldest son. Archie, on the other hand, may even bequeath his title later on, but only to his male first-born.

A spokesperson at Debrett's told Insider, "There is no reason why Archie would not inherit all his father's titles after Harry's death, but as the Sussexes have shown a degree of informality when it comes to titles, whether or not he decides to use them is to be seen."
