Royal Source Shares Kate Middleton Doesn’t ‘Emulate’ Princess Diana And Is A ‘Very Different Woman’

Princess Diana was one of the most prominent figures of the royal family due to her class, glamour and kind heart. She was known for her impeccable sense of fashion, her charitable ways, and her overall friendliness and charming personality with everyone around her. Loved by many, Diana was easily a topic of conversation and the center of attention wherever she went.
After divorcing King Charles III (then Prince Charles) in 1996, Diana tragically passed away in a car accident in 1997. She left behind her two sons, William, Prince of Wales and Prince Harry. Years after her passing, her sons would go on to get married and start families of their own. Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011 and Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in 2018.
According to Town & Country, Kate met William in 2001 while attending the University of St. Andrews. The couple began dating shortly after. Although their relationship was hidden for some time, in 2004, a photo was snapped of the couple on a ski trip and their relationship quickly became public. The couple split briefly in 2007, but true love always prevails, and they have been together ever since. In 2010, William proposed to Kate while in Kenya with his mother, Princess Diana's ring. The two were married on April 29, 2011, at a beautiful ceremony in Westminster Abbey, London.
Years later the couple started their family and together they have three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Although Kate may have her mother-in-law's ring, experts question whether or not the current Princess of Wales is following in Princess Diana’s footsteps.

According to the royal correspondent for Vanity Fair, Katie Nicholl, she believes that the Princess of Wales isn’t trying to be exactly like her late mother-in-law. “I think one of the great strengths of Kate, and one of her real successes, is that she hasn't followed in Diana's footsteps,” she shared according to Express.
“I think she was so aware of the comparison right from the outset, but despite the weight of that engagement ring on her finger, and the significance that that holds and the comparisons it inevitably draws, she is actually a very different woman,” Nicholl added.
With Kate being named the “Children’s Princess” and Princess Diana being named the “People's Princess” Nicholl revealed that Kate has tried to forge her own path and identity. “Her success has been in carving her own identity in the royal family as the Duchess of Cambridge and making that role herself,” she said before Kate’s title was changed to Princess of Wales. “I don't think she seeks to emulate Diana,” she added.
However, the royal correspondent does believe that Kate pays tribute to Princess Diana subtly. “After the birth of George when she wore that blue and white dress, after Louis's birth she was in the red, that was very Diana, Diana had worn the same sort of red dress,” Nicholl said. “Really, it's a respectful nod and an acknowledgment of the continuation of history,” she added.
More importantly, Nicholl shared that the biggest nod to Princess Diana is how the Princess of Wales wants to raise her children. “We see it in how she's sort of trying to raise the children in an ordinary way, which is what Diana very much wanted for Harry and William,” she shared.

The Princess of Wales and her husband are trying to give their children a childhood that most royal children do not have. Released in August of 2022, a senior royal source told ABC News that the royal couple wants to give their children a normal upbringing. “As the children get older and more independent you can see why they would feel they have more breathing space in Windsor,” the source shared.
This move from London to Windsor helps give the children the opportunity to have somewhat close to a regular childhood. "But this has been driven by what William and Kate want for their children and they have always been resolved to try and have a normal family life," the source also shared.
The cottage, with four bedrooms, gives the family a chance to be closer than ever, with no extra room for live-in staff. Having mostly escaped to the cottage for holidays, a source told The Sunday Times that the cottage is the family’s favorite spot to be, as per Cosmopolitan. “They absolutely love it up there, it’s their happy place,” a source shared.
In the interview with PEOPLE, which included a video and cover story feature, Sarah Ferguson stated how she thinks Princess Diana would have felt about her daughters-in-law, Catherine, Princess of Wales and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex if she were alive today and knew them. She revealed:
"If she were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, 'I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen. Because each has got her own voice.'"
