Royal Showdown: Queen To Head Crisis Talks Over Meghan And Harry

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just announced without confiding in the royal family first that they are stepping back from their senior roles as members. The family is reportedly set to meet today to discuss the future plans for Harry and Meghan. 

Reuters reports Queen Elizabeth and her heir to the throne Prince Charles along with Prince William, Harry’s elder brother, are all gathering to meet at Sandringham estate in Norfolk, eastern England.

Taking to their official Instagram account last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a shocking statement announcing they “intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and “work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

The couple added that they will be splitting their time between the Prince’s native United Kingdom and North America and will be announcing the launch of their new charitable entity in the near future. The move comes just days after the couple’s return from a six-week-long hiatus in Canada with their 8-month son Archie, where they spent Christmas with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.

Queen Elizabeth released a statement following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's announcement of their stepping down from royal duties. Sources report that the couple did not tell Buckingham Palace before making the announcement leaving royal members "hurt" and "disappointed" by Harry and Meghan's decision. 

The statement reads as per the Mirror: "Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."

Experts have weighed in and believe the couple could make even more money from endorsements after leaving the royal family. US public relations guru Ronn Torossian said to the Mirror that by walking away from the sovereign grant the couple can now get “any endorsement deals in the world they may want."

Additionally, because the duke and duchess will not be bound to royal work, they are open to make lucrative deals and have commercial sponsorships.
