Jan 16, 2020 by apost team

With Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announcing their stepping down from the royal family, many spectators can't help but draw similarities between Meghan and the late Princess Diana. Both being rebels of their own causes, becoming royal icons overnight, and being the world's most powerful dressers, it seems Diana has had a great influence on her son's wife. Here's a look at all the ways Meghan has channeled Princess Diana through fashion:

Duchesses In Denim

In 1997, Princess Diana rocked her casual look with a pair of denim jeans and a white button-down shirt for a trip to Bosnia. Similarly, Meghan Markle rocked the same look when she attended the Invictus Games in Toronto in 2017.

Both attending dinners, Meghan and Diana looked stunning in a blue number and dangly earrings. The Duchess of Sussex attended a dinner hosted by the President of Fiji at the Grand Pacific Hotel. Her blue gown drew similarities to that of Princess Diana's Versace gown in 1996 for a fundraiser in Australia according to Hello! Magazine.

It seems Meghan may have taken some inspiration from the late Princess when she wore a purple dress and red coat in 2019. Diana wore the same color combo in 1989 while on a visit to Hong Kong. Meghan's coat was a Sentaler red, wrap coat that she paired with a Babaton 'Maxwell' dress and red suede heels, according to Meghan's Fashion website.

Princess Diana wore a creamy floral patterned dress when she went to a party that was auctioning off her iconic dresses. Similarily, Meghan wore a delicately cream floral dress for a reception at Buckingham Palace. She stylishly paired the dress with a Crombie coat and tan suede pumps.

Princess Diana wore a green plaid dress to the Highland Games in Scotland in 1987. 31 years later, when Meghan visited Scotland in 2018 she wore a green plaid Burberry coat that looked near-identical to that of Diana's.

Women In White

These two couldn't be twinning more in white dresses both worn 23 years apart. Meghan opted for the white, Karen Gee 'Blessed' dress on the first day of she and Prince Harry's royal visit to Austrailia. Diana wore her white Versace dress for a trip to Argentina in 1995.

Meghan Markle glowed in an off-the-shoulder dress at 2018's Trooping the Colour parade, she may have gathered some inspiration from Princess Diana's pink look in 1987. The late Duchess wore a similar off-the-shoulder pale pink and white evening dress designed by Catherine Walker to a ballet in Berlin, Germany.
