Fans were overjoyed to get a glimpse of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in the Apple docuseries "The Me You Can't See," which was released on May 21, 2021. Afterward, a newly resurfaced baby photo of Meghan showed just how much Archie looks like his mom.
Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's move to California in March 2020, the couple has been working hard to bring awareness to major causes. They often share their work and thoughts on their foundation's website, Archewell. On May 6, 2021, Archie turned 2 years old, and Harry and Meghan released a beautiful sepia-toned photo of their son for the occasion.
However, the small video clip of Archie in the new docuseries gave a clearer look at the growing toddler, who rarely makes an appearance in the photographs that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex share.
In cooperation with Oprah Winfrey, Harry and Meghan were prominent in this project for mental health awareness. The show, "The Me You Can't See," was executive produced by Winfrey and Harry and featured the two of them discussing emotional well-being and mental health with a number of celebrity guests, including Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, and NBA players DeMar DeRozan and Langston Galloway.
The show also featured Winfrey and Harry opening up about their own experiences with mental health. Focusing on making sure viewers know they are not alone in the struggle that sometimes happens with mental health, the show's goal has been to challenge stigmas and provide insights into how viewers can start the path to treatment.
Back in May 2019, just a few days after Archie was born, Harry and Meghan debuted their son at Windsor Castle. According to ABC News, Meghan had only positives to say about becoming a new mother. “It’s magic,” she said. “It’s pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”
Meghan continued, praising just how wonderful Archie already was. “He has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm,” she said. “...He’s just been the dream, so it’s been a special couple days.”
According to ABC News, the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were the first members of the royal family to meet the then-newborn.
At the time, Harry and Meghan said they were still “trying to figure” out who Archie resembled more. “Everyone says that babies change so much over two weeks – we’re basically sort of monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month really,” Harry said. “But his looks are changing every single day, so who knows.”
Harry already had some experience with kids as he is an uncle to Prince William’s three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. However, Harry mentioned that he was “thrilled” to become a dad to his own “bundle of joy.”
Harry added, “Parenting is amazing. It’s only been, what, two and a half days, three days? But we’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy here to spend some precious times with him as he slowly starts to grow up.”
And since then, Archie has continued to grow into an adorable tiny tot.
In the docuseries "The Me You Can't See," Harry candidly spoke about how the royal family failed him and his family, especially when it came to addressing mental health. The series was released not long after Harry and Meghan's high-profile Winfrey interview, where the couple openly criticized the culture and attitude of royal family members.
The sight of the toddler in the trailer that was released on May 17, 2021, was certainly a surprise, as the family has opted for a more private life in Montecito, California, after relinquishing their royal duties in the U.K., a decision that has been dubbed "Megxit."
Harry also opened up about his small family while speaking on the series, and Hello! Magazine reported that during the fifth episode, Harry told viewers about Archie's first words and the impact they had on him. Harry and Meghan were both featured for the episode, wherein they also revealed smaller details about their life in California.
Harry said that Archie's nursery has a photo of Diana hanging on his wall, and he shared, "I got a photo of her in his nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said — apart from 'mama,' 'papa,' it was then 'grandma.' Grandma Diana."
He continued, "It's the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here."
Previously, Harry had revealed to James Corden on "The Late Late Show" that Archie's first word was "crocodile." He told Corden about Archie, "He's got the most amazing personality. He's already putting three or four words together, he's already singing songs."Prince Harry, Meghan, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor (2019), (Toby Melville - Pool/Getty Images)
The fifth episode of "The Me You Can't See" also featured never-before-seen footage of Archie swinging on a hanging bench alongside his father, according to PEOPLE. It was in this video of Archie on a swing that viewers noticed his resemblance to his mother.
Twitter user Julieth posted a side-by-side comparison of a baby photo of Meghan along with Archie, and it is quite clear that the toddler has taken after his beautiful mother! She captioned her post, "Archie been looking a lot like Meghan."
Other users certainly agreed with this, with one user commenting that they "always" saw the resemblance. "I have always said that Archie looks like his mother from the first time we saw him at the photo call. He's a mini Meghan with his curly and wavy hair," they wrote. Other users also commented that Archie was Meghan's "mini-me."
Another person also saw that Archie's face resembled both his parents, adding, "I think he is changing from Harry to Meghan's faces at the moment. I can't wait to see which face will finally stick."
Harry and Meghan were announced to be expecting their second child, a girl, in the summer of 2021. Meghan gave birth to a baby girl named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on June 4, 2021.
However, CafeMom reported that some royal fans had hoped that the baby would be born on July 1, which was Princess Diana's 60th birthday. In the docuseries, Harry reflected that Diana would also be "proud" of the life he is currently living and has created for his family.
He went on to add, "So not only do I know that she's incredibly proud of me, but that she's helped me get here. And I've never felt her presence more as I have done over the last year."
