Royal Family Uploads Private Recording Of Queen Elizabeth's Childhood Honoring Her 94th Birthday

As Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 94th birthday on April 21, the Royal Family has shared a touching private video of her childhood in her honor. Posted to the Royal Family Instagram account, the short just over one-minute video features footage of the Queen when she was a small girl, as she plays with her younger sister Margaret.

It's a moving gesture and one that contrasts the lack of usual celebrations in other regards, as the coronavirus pandemic has caused unprecedented changes to daily life and to the Royal Family's traditions.

Reaching 94 is remarkable for any human, but Queen Elizabeth's age is especially impressive, as it makes her the longest reigning m onarch in British history. Usually there would be mass celebrations across the United Kingdom for the Queen's birthday, always celebrated publically in June, but plans have been cancelled due to the current state of affairs.

But that didn't stop the Royal Family and the Queen's family members from congratulating her online. The video shared by the Royal Family account shows moving black-and-white footage of Elizabeth as a small girl, frolicking with her late sister Margaret, riding a horse, and even dancing with family.

The post was captioned, "Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!" while thanking the public for her birthday well wishes. It also included a message for those at home, stating: "To those of you also celebrating your birthday today at home, with or without your loved ones – we send you many happy returns." Many people also shared their support and well wishes in the comments.

Prince Charles also shared a touching post honoring his mother. Posted to the official Clarence House Instagram page, the post was of a lovely black-and-white photo of Queen Elizabeth and Charles as a baby, with the caption: "Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy 94th Birthday."

Not only Prince Charles, but the Queen's grandson Prince William and Kate Middleton also shared a heartwarming post on Instagram. Uploaded to the Kensington Royal account was a lovely photo of the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge outside enjoying nature. Both the Queen and Kate are wearing floral dresses –– a reminder of the beautiful spring days we have ahead of us. 

The Queen's birthday celebrations are usually a large affair, with gun salutes and the bells of Westminster Abbey chiming in her honor. But due to the ongoing pandemic, such celebrations have been canceled for this year, as well as her official birthday celebrations that take place in June. An event called the Trooping the Colour, which was initiated by King George II, will also be cancelled amid the crisis.

The Royal family are doing their part in advocating for self-isolation in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, that's claimed many lives around the world, including in their native Britain. The Queen and her husband Prince Philip are presently self-isolating at Windsor Castle, as well as the rest of the Royal family in their own residences.
