Kate Middleton was born on January 9, 1982, making her roughly six months elder than her husband Prince William.

According to the Metro, the Duchess began her birthday celebrations over the weekend by hosting an intimate soirée at her Norfolk country home featuring family and friends. Her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, close friends Tom van Straubenzee and his fiance Lucy Lanigan O’ Keefe - who also happens to be a teacher and Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school - are said to be just some of the guests attending.

Last year, Middleton celebrated her birthday by hosting a party at her Norfolk home as well as a tea party on her actual birthday with her children. It is unclear if she will be having a birthday tea party today as well.

The past year was full of highlights for the Duchess, including Prince Louis’ first birthday, Princess Charlotte’s fist day at school, and a tour in Pakistan along with her husband.

The Duchess’ birthday, however, is said to have been overshadowed by a bombshell announcement made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Wednesday evening.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took to their official Instagram account last night to announce they are stepping back as senior members of the Royal family.

The royal couple said they are working on becoming financially independent and will be splitting their time between the United Kingdom and North America.
