Royal Children Prince George, Princess Charlotte & Prince Louis Get Invites To ‘Very Special’ Theatrical Event

A charming surprise awaited the children of the Prince and Princess of Wales before the 2025 year-end holiday season, as Prince George, born in 2013, Princess Charlotte, born in 2015, and Prince Louis, born in 2018, were extended a “very special” invitation to attend “Paddington The Musical.”

The show, staged in London’s famed West End, transforms the beloved bear’s adventures into a lively theatrical experience inspired by the character who famously shared a marmalade sandwich with Queen Elizabeth II during the 2022 Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Following the monarch’s death in 2022, Paddington became a touching and widely embraced symbol of remembrance across the United Kingdom.

This wasn’t the first time the Waleses had encountered the production. Prince William and Princess Catherine previously watched a musical number from their private box during the Royal Variety Performance on Nov. 19, 2025. The brief preview was warmly received, giving audiences a glimpse of the show’s heartfelt atmosphere and playful spirit.

Producer Eliza Lumley expressed excitement about the royal connection, saying: “Paddington is an institution – it feels like a British institution – so for one to meet the other was an iconic moment.” Her comment highlighted the unique cultural link between the cherished children’s character and the royal family.

Songwriter and McFly member Tom Fletcher, who crafted the show’s original score, added to the anticipation. “I have invited (the Prince and Princess of Wales) to see the show, so who knows. Hopefully, at some point, they’ll make it to a theatre to see it.”

Reflecting on the Royal Variety Performance — scheduled to air on ITV on Dec. 21, 2025 — Tom shared: “I got to introduce Paddington to their Royal Highnesses, which was quite a surreal moment.”

He continued: “They seemed to really enjoy it – we got to perform a tiny little peek of the show at the Royal Variety, and it went down very well, so I’m hoping it gets the same reaction tonight.”

Fletcher’s history with the royal family stretched back years, making the current “Paddington” collaboration especially meaningful. As he explained:

“We’ve met the royal family a number of times.”

Among his fondest memories was one of Queen Elizabeth II during an early McFly performance:

“One of my favorite moments was our first ever Royal Variety Performance with McFly, and it was meeting Her Majesty the Queen.”

Tom recalled a humorous moment when royal protocol briefly went awry. “And you’re not meant to speak to the Queen unless she speaks to you first, which my bandmate, Danny (Jones), forgot in the heat of the moment and just casually started having a conversation.”

He continued:

“And she was very lovely and sweet, and had a lovely conversation with him in turn. So that was probably one of my favourite memories.”

As excitement builds around “Paddington The Musical,” producer Sonia Friedman – known for major productions including “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” – shared insights from the red carpet.

Speaking with HELLO! exclusively, she expressed enthusiasm about welcoming the young Wales children to the theatre:

“We can’t wait for Paddington to meet the children of the Prince and Princess of Wales because I think they’re going to come to the show, which will be very special.”

When asked whether their attendance was expected soon, she added: “We’re hoping so!”

Friedman also reflected on the monumental effort behind the production's development:

“We’re very happy. We’re very proud. It’s taken hundreds and hundreds of people and many years to get to this point, and we’re handing it over to the audience now, so it feels great.”

With the musical now delighting families across the West End, the possibility of sharing its whimsical world with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis created an added layer of anticipation.
