Royal Blue: Queen Looks Jubilant In Turquoise As The Monarch Joins Princess Anne At The University Of Edinburgh

Queen Elizabeth II, 95, and her daughter Princess Anne, 70, looked as though they were having a wonderful time on July 1, 2021, at the University of Edinburgh, where Anne has been chancellor since 2011. The position was previously held by the Duke of Edinburgh, who took over the role in 1953. The monarch and Princess Royal were at the university to hear from the staff and students about their groundbreaking research into ways to reverse the effects of climate change.

Looking jubilant in a turquoise coat and a matching hat, the queen had a smile on her face as she walked around the campus and spoke with the faculty and students. She also had on black shoes that matched her handbag, which was a nice balance to the playful feather in her hat. Princess Anne looked beautiful as well, dressed in neutral tones and wearing an A-line skirt and striped blazer. She complimented the queen’s bright blue outfit beautifully.

Ahead of COP26 in Glasgow later this year, the royals were there to learn about the newly-launched Edinburgh Earth Initiative, which is the focal point for the university’s teaching and research on climate change. Outside of their research into solutions for climate crises such as the health of the planet, oceans and sustainable food systems, the program also offers scholarships for students that come from communities that are most at risk from climate change.

It is wonderful to see the queen out and about attending her royal engagements and looking so relaxed. Princess Anne was a nice companion and had plenty to contribute as the chancellor of the University of Edinburgh. Read on to learn more about the royal visit.

At the end of their visit to the university, the queen and Princess Anne met with representatives from the Children’s Parliament who explained that they had recently made contributions to Scotland’s Climate Assembly, which was supported by the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute (ECCI). The children also presented the queen with two trees that will be planted as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy, which is a UK-wide tree planting initiative to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Prior to her visit to the university, the queen and Princess Anne went to visit an outdoor children's center in Glasgow. The monarch couldn’t contain her joy during the event and had a smile on her face the entire time they visited The Children's Wood Project. The center is an outdoor community initiative, which aims to encourage a happy and healthy community through access to gardening space and outdoor learning.

The queen couldn’t have looked more at peace as she witnessed children roasting marshmallows. She also received a jar of honey from a young royal fan. One member, Quinton Cutts, commented on how well the community stood together during the lockdown. He said, “nobody stole my beans” as he looked at the seedlings with a smile on his face.

The queen joked, “Maybe if you had some beans,” but as she looked down, she saw another plant that was beginning to ripen, and added, “That’s tempting too, those strawberries.” Her Royal Highness always seems at ease when surrounded by nature and that day was no exception.

The day before the event, the queen told the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, she was happy to be back in Scotland for the first time since Prince Philip died.

The visit to the University of Edinburgh was on the same day as Princess Diana’s 60th birthday. Prince Harry had flown into London from California for the occasion. He was there to join Prince William in unveiling a statue of their late mother. The brothers have been working together on the project since 2017.

William and Harry have had a strained relationship since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their positions in the royal family. Sources close to their uncle, Charles Spencer, have said that the brothers are set to have a private meeting after the ceremony.

Sussex confidant Omid Scobie has said they both agreed that the day was about their mother — and not them. He added, “What we will see is two brothers being professional in a moment that is not about them. This is going to be a moment we see them put everything to one side. We will just see professionalism and nothing else.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced on their Twitter, "Today, on what would have been our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character — qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better."

It is good that both of Diana’s sons were there to celebrate her birthday and unveil such a touching tribute to her. Hopefully, the private meeting between the two princes will go well and the family can begin to heal. Fortunately, the queen seems to be in good health and high spirits and is getting around great less than a year before her Platinum Jubilee in February 2022.
