Self-made billionaire Ross Perot has sadly died at the age of 89. The ex-presidential candidate passed away surrounded by his family amid his battle with Leukemia.

Perot first made a name for himself in 1962 when he founded a tech company called Electronic Data Systems with only $1,000. According to Fox Business, the company was bought by General Motors for $2.5 billion in 1984. However, Perot didn’t just stop there. He went on to create more companies and even entered into U.S. politics.

Perot ran as an independent for president not once but twice, in 1992 and 1996. In 1992, he won almost 19% of the vote, which has been the biggest majority for a third-party candidate since 1912 when Theodore Roosevelt's Bull Moose Party ran for election, according to CNBC.

The Dallas Morning News reported the Texas billionaire was diagnosed with leukemia in February of this year.

“In business and in life, Ross was a man of integrity and action," the Perot family said in a statement cited in Fox Business News, "A true American patriot and a man of rare vision, principle and deep compassion, he touched the lives of countless people through his unwavering support of the military and veterans and through his charitable endeavors."

Forbes estimates Perot was worth an estimated $4.1 billion at the time of his death.

Our condolences go out to the Perot family at this time, RIP Ross Perot. Make sure you let others know about this news.
