Roseanne Barr Reveals That The Daughter She Put Up For Adoption Thought Goldie Hawn Was Her Birth Mom For Years

Actress Roseanne Barr revealed that for 17 years, the daughter she had given up for adoption thought that her biological mom was fellow actress Goldie Hawn. Barr, 73, gave her firstborn, Brandi Brown, 53, up for adoption as a baby when she was 18. She recalled how this happened and the journey to reuniting with her daughter on Bunnie XO’s podcast, “Dumb Blonde.”

Barr said: “I told her when they came to get her, ‘Well, I’ll see you when you’re 18.’ I knew,” adding that in her mind, she “always knew that we’d find each other when she was 18.” Brandi knew she had been adopted, and her adoptive parents had told her that her birth mom was famous and Jewish.

This led her to mistakenly assume that Goldie Hawn was her biological mom, especially since they had a resemblance. “All she knew was that her mother was famous in Hollywood, and Jewish,” the “Roseanne Show” star said. “And so she thought it was Goldie Hawn, was her mom, because she looked just like Goldie Hawn.”

However, Barr and her daughter’s reunion happened after her boyfriend at the time went to the papers behind her back and told them she had given her baby up for adoption. This led the press to run the story and tell Barr they would do it “whether you want us to or not.” 

“I was on TV, and that’s how they found me,” Barr spoke about how the National Enquirer found out her secret. "My boyfriend at the time (Tom Arnold), I found out way later, he went to the Enquirer and told them that I had a baby that I gave up."

Barr went on to explain how she went from finding out The Enquirer was running the story to how they called her daughter to inform her of her birth mom after years of her believing it was Goldie Hawn, saying:

"The Enquirer called her, and she answered the phone, my daughter, and they said, 'Would you like to know who your mother is?' And she’s all excited thinking it’s going to be Goldie Hawn."

Brandi was just 17 years old at the time she found out the identity of her birth mom. When I proceeded to tell her that her birth mom was actually Barr, her reaction was nothing short of hilarious. Barr told Bunnie XO:

"And they go, ‘It’s Roseanne Barr.’ And her words — so hilarious — she goes, ‘Christ, I didn’t even know she was a Jew,’ which is so hilarious.”

The actress jokingly shared Brandi’s reaction to the big news, saying:

“And she was mad too, ‘cause I was fat and everything.”

Brandi instantly realized that she looked just like her birth mom when she found out it was Barr:

“She goes, ‘Oh my god, I do look just like her.’ And she took the picture to the mirror,”

Barr continued:

“And she just kept looking and going, ‘I do, I look exactly like her.’ ”

The two then reconnected and have been in each other’s lives since then. Brandi is now 53, and Barr described her as an “awesome” person. Barr also told Bunnie XO that Brandi has a family of her own. “She has a son, and a lovely husband,” Barr said. Adding, “She’s a wonderful woman.”
