Russian national team skater Sofia Bogdanova, 14, clinched first place at the 2017 SSO Shanghai Slalom Open Junior Female Classic Slalom at just 11 years old.

Everyone associates ice skating with grace and poise. The competitors perform breathtaking physical feats on a single blade while making it look no harder than walking in the park. Now, the sport of competitive roller skating offers the same style, grace, and artistry. Perhaps no one embodies those qualities better than Sofia Bogdanova, a young, competitive freestyle slalom roller skating champion.

In freestyle roller skating, competitors on rollerblades perform artistic moves, such as turns, spins, and even skate in squat position inches from the floor on only one leg, holding the other straight out.

They perform these moves while navigating a course of small cones placed in front of them. As they move through their turns and spins, they must keep from knocking over the cones.

Bogdanova, who's only 11 in the video, navigates the course with ease, knocking down only two cones in the course of her two-minute routine! She turns around the cones several times, sometimes winding through the cones backward on only the front wheel of one skate!

Her poise and talent seem beyond her years and recall the great figure skaters of years past.

Bogdanova, on her Instagram page, claims six World Championships and nine European Championships. Her stunning success seems less surprising when you view the routine and watch her deftly navigate the cones, sometimes seeming not to look where she is going! Bogdanova originally wanted to compete in figure skating. When practice time and school times conflicted, she moved from ice skating to roller skating.

Later, she saw a freestyle slalom competition and decided to take it up. She set records for how quickly she ascended to the top of the sport. She continues to accumulate titles and awards. The video of Bogdanova has cleared 61,000,000 views and still climbs as new people learn of the prodigy’s skill. Bogdanova continues to link videos to her Instagram site.
