The daughter of the crocodile hunter is getting ready to say "I do."

Bindi Irwin, 21, made headlines when she announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Chandler Powell. The two met when Chandler visited the Australia Zoo, which is owned by the Irwin family.

Love at first sight

"It just so happened that Bindi was giving tours that day," Chandler told People magazine. He claimed to be instantly smitten.

They were only teenagers during that fateful meeting, and Chandler was an American who lived thousands of miles away, so their time together was short-lived. But they kept in touch through letters and phone calls, and when he was old enough, Chandler relocated to Australia to be with Bindi. He even took a job at the zoo! In recent years, Chandler has become just as much of an animal rights activist as his now-fiancee, and he's even donned the famous khakis that mark him as an Irwin.

According to Bindi,

"He loves wildlife and conservation and he has this strength... which is necessary when you're jumping on crocs!"

Bindi, of course, has carried on her father's legacy in multiple ways. She's hosted several TV shows dedicated to wildlife conservation, and she's founded and fundraised for everything from gigantic elephants to tiny otters. News of their engagement was met with a widespread "aww" from the rest of the world, and the details of their upcoming wedding are a hot topic.

Bindi says that she wants her brother, 15-year-old Robert, to walk her down the aisle in place of her father. She says that Robert has always been very supportive of her decisions, and she wouldn't dream of having anyone else by her side on her special day.

"I think that for me, it'll be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle," she told Entertainment Tonight. "That's something that I really want to do."

"I think that's what dad would have wanted as well," she added.

As for the traditional father-daughter dance, she'll turn to her mother, Terri.

"My mom and I are so close. She's my pillar of strength in life and I love her beyond description," Bindi revealed. "So I think, when the time comes, Robert will walk me down the aisle (...) and I'll have my dance with mom. I think that would be wonderful."

Additionally, her father is never far from her thoughts. In a touching note that she wrote to the crocodile hunter and posted on Instagram, she said that he would be "beaming with pride" at the sight of Robert walking her down the aisle.

"I wish you could be here for these moments," she wrote, "but I know that your spirit lives on in us."

What do you think, readers? Bindi and Chandler haven't announced a date yet, but we know that the wedding will be sometime near year. Will they host it at the Australia Zoo? Will they televise it? Would you watch it? Let us know in the comments!
