Robert Irwin Says He’s "Honored" His Sister Bindi Asked Him To Walk Her Down The Aisle

Robert Irwin just revealed how excited he was when his sister, Bindi Irwin asked him to walk her down the ailse for her upcoming wedding day. The 15-year-old has been a shoulder to lean on for Bindi since they were younger and through their father Steve Irwin's passing. 

At the "Time 100 Next" event which honored Robert Irwin for the difference he is making in his generation, the teenager told People he was "stoked" when his big sister Bindi asked him to walk her down the aisle. “I was so excited and really honored for her to ask me to walk her down the aisle.”

21-year-old Bindi recently got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Chandler Powell. The pair met and began dating six years ago when Chandler visited the Australia Zoo where she worked.

“I think its going to be such a wonderful day, such a great celebration,” Robert continued. “Chandler is absolutely perfect. I can’t fault him, he’s awesome.”

Bindi told Entertainment Tonight that she has always imagined her wedding since she was a little girl. Bindi said she asked Robert to fill in the role of her late father to honor their dad's memory.

"For me, it will be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle," Bindi explained.  "Ever since Dad passed away as a little girl you always think about your wedding day and I'm always so grateful that Robert is there and that he is such a big part of my life.”

Bindi's father, Steve Irwin, died tragically in 2006 while filming a documentary on ocean life. Bindi’s mom, Terri, will also play an important role at the wedding. Throughout her childhood and into her adult years, Bindi and Terri have had an unshakeable bond as both continue to help animals around the world.

A strong tradition at most weddings involves a dance with the bride and her father. With Steve gone, Terri will fill in at the father-daughter dance.
