Actor Robert Downey Jr., known most recently for his role in the “Avengers” movies seems to be turning into a real-life Tony Stark. He was recently at the Amazon Re:Mars conference in Las Vegas this week as the keynote speaker. During his speech, he announced “The Footprint Coalition,’ a very Tony Stark-esque initiative that uses technology and robotics to help the environment.

Variety reports that the initiative’s launch will be in April 2020, and so far the website only has a basic homepage with a newsletter sign-up form. He did not share much more about the secretive project but did divulge that he was inspired to create this coalition among a roundtable of experts. “God I love experts,” He said in his talk, “They’re like Wikipedia with character defects.”

Climate change is getting worse: according to a Guardian report, CO2 levels are rising at a rapid rate for the seventh year in a row. The environmental predicament has unnerved Downey Jr. He said, “I have this quiet sense of crisis. I’m a one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus.”
But he is hopeful. “Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could probably clean up the planet significantly if not entirely within a decade,” Downey Jr. told the crowd. He also promised that if he achieves his goal and actually makes a dent, then he’ll throw the “nuttiest” retirement party in eleven years.
