Hollywood is full of celebrities who've had personal battles with addiction, and Rob Lowe is one of them. Now over 30 years sober, Lowe recently revealed that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was a large part of his sobriety journey.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association panel in January, he discussed his sincere gratitude to the musician and how a phone call from Tyler set him on the right path.

Starring in the new Fox drama 9-1-1: Lone Star with Tyler's daughter Liv Tyler, 55-year-old actor Rob Lowe was speaking at the panel earlier this year when he decided to open up about his sobriety journey, and how indebted he is to Liv's father Steven for helping him stay on the right path.

As reported by Fox News, he stated: "When I first got sober, I thought, my life is sober. My fun is done, and I'm not going to be cool anymore. I came home when I was probably sober two or three weeks. I got a call from Steven Tyler, who I did not know. He called to say 'I heard you are in recovery and I just wanted to say hey, I'm thinking of you dude.'"

The meaningful gesture clearly made an impact on Lowe, particularly coming from a fellow celebrity who at that point in time he wasn't friends with. Tyler's stature as a rock legend no doubt also helped, with Lowe adding: "If it's good enough for f––– Steven Tyler, it's good enough for me...He's a big part of who I am today."

The story goes to show how much of an impact other people can have on others' sobriety journeys, for if Tyler hadn't rung Lowe up and taken time out of his day, then perhaps Lowe wouldn't have been as inspired to stay on track.

Very open about his battles with addiction, Rob Lowe struggled with alcoholism in the late '80s and '90s after becoming a big name in Hollywood. He's spoken candidly about this period of his life in his memoir Stories I Only Tell My Friends.

Speaking with People magazine, Lowe discussed his then newfound sobriety and coming to terms with a new way of life: "I was so excited that I could still be cool and not have to be the life of the party. And there was a great club of people in the world who have had fun, killed it, been there done [that] and were willing and able to turn a new page and have an even better life. That's actually more fun and more exciting."

Steven Tyler's own battle with addiction goes back to the late '80s, where his band members and management intervened to put him in rehab. The 71-year-old spoke with Haute Living magazine last December and said: "There was a moment in '88 where management and the band pulled an intervention on me...So, I got sober, and you know it took me many years to get over the anger of them sending me to rehab while they went on vacation. But today because of that moment –– I am grateful and owe a thanks to them for my sobriety."

In the same interview with People, Lowe told the magazine that working with Steven's daughter Liv has been a great experience, saying: "Every time I look at Liv, it makes my heart happy." In their new show 9-1-1: Lone Star, Lowe plays a solo survivor of a Manhattan firehouse after 9/11, who then moves to Texas where he takes over a fire station and works alongside a chief paramedic played by Liv Tyler.
