Rio Hudson Has Inherited Her Grandma Goldie Hawn's Looks

Goldie Hawn has had a prolific acting career throughout her life, but she has never let that get in the way of her personal life. Hawn is known for her films such as "Overboard," "The First Wives Club," "Bird on a Wire," "Private Benjamin," and many more. She has even won both Academy Awards and Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress. Now that her three-decade Hollywood reign is slowing down, Hawn has founded The 'Mind Up' Goldie Hawn Foundation in 2003, which seeks to give underprivileged children a better education. Despite all of her advantageous projects, Hawn has still managed to have a flourishing family life. 

With Kurt Russell, a partner of over 30 years, Hawn has set out the ultimate couple goals, and the bar is set quite high when one looks at their adorable photos and their journey. In an industry where real-life romances don't last very long, Russell and Hawn have been together since 1983 for almost four decades and are an inspiration. They have movies together, including "Swing Shift" and "The Christmas Chronicles." 

The ageless beauty Hawn has raised her kids to be good people and is now helping out with her grandchildren! With four children and seven grandchildren, Hawn certainly has her hands full as a grandma. In particular, her granddaughter Rio, who is her son Oliver Hudson's daughter, seems to be a chip off the old block and is taking after her grandmother!

Goldie Jeanne Hawn was born on Nov. 21, 1945, in Washington D.C. Her father, band musician Edward Rutledge Hawn, was a Presbyterian of German and English descent, while her mother, Laura Steinhoff, was the Jewish daughter of Hungarian immigrants, as well as a jewelry shop/dance school owner. After one of Hawn's brothers passed away during infancy, she was left with one sister, entertainment publicist Patti Hawn. Due to her mother's involvement in dance school, Hawn got dancing at an early age. She learned ballet and tap dance at the age of just three years old. This was when Hawn's career on the stage started. Her stage debut was in 1964, where she played Juliet in a Virginia Shakespeare Festival production of "Romeo and Juliet." Hawn went on to study drama at American University but dropped out and by the end of 1964 she ran and taught her own ballet school.

Hawn is one of the most well-known actresses in Hollywood, and her daughter Kate Hudson also falls into the same category. For the "Cactus Flower" actress, however, family comes above everything else. According to Hello! Magazine, Hawn is "incredibly close" to all her grandchildren and was present for all of their births. 

Hawn told Australian Women's Weekly, "A good family is the answer to happiness," as per Hello! Magazine. She added:

"I look at our kids and grandchildren and there's nothing in the world that could make me as proud as I am of all of them. Being a grandmother is amazing, I love it. It brings incredible joy. Family is so important."

Hawn's partner of over 30 years, Kurt Russell, also plays a big part in their family's life. Russell was born on Mar. 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Russell started his career as a child actor, starring in ABC series such as "The Fugitive" and "Our Man Higgins." In 1966, Russel signed a decade-long contract with The Walt Disney Company, and Walt Disney himself even penned the name "Kurt Russell" on a piece of paper as his final words. Russell and Hawn have been together since 1983 but are still not officially married. The couple share son Wyatt Russell and have co-parented all their children in their blended family. Kurt Russell has a son, Boston Russell from a previous marriage to Season Hubley, while Hawn has children Kate and Oliver with ex-husband Bill Hudson.

From Hawn's side, the couple has 7 grandchildren. Oliver shares three children with his wife Erinn Bartlett: Wilder, 13, and Bodhi, 10, and Rio, 6. Meanwhile, Goldie is also grandmother to Kate Hudson's three children: Ryder, 16, Bingham, 9, from Hudson's previous marriage to Matt Bellamy, and one-year-old Rani with singer Danny Fujikawa.

Hawn certainly has her hands full as a grandma. Hawn and Kurt have become grandparents once again as their son Wyatt Russell and Meredith Hagner welcomed their first child, a baby boy, into the world! While the exact date that Buddy Prine Russell was born is not yet known, Hagner revealed the big news in an Instagram post on Mar. 12, 2021. We are sure that the whole family is overjoyed to welcome another little one into their brood.

Hawn posts quite a few pictures of her grandchildren on her Instagram page, and some recent pictures of her granddaughter Rio have brought forward quite a few comments on how much the little girl resembles her "GoGo" from her younger days. 

One photograph is a goofy one of Rio with her legs in the air. It seems as though Rio has inherited her grandma's goofiness as well, especially when you see older photos of Hawn from early on in her career. Social media users were quick to catch the resemblance. One user commented, "Looks like Mini Goldie GORGEOUS", while another said, "She looks like Goldie!" Another user was also quick to point out that Rio may have learned her quirkiness from Hawn, and commented "Something her grandma taught her??"

Another picture posted on Hawn's Instagram features her son Oliver Hudson and little Rio making pizza together. As he holds a pizza base shaped into a love heart, his daughter is smiling widely at the camera. Ever the proud mom and grandma, Goldie Hawn captioned the post, "Sometimes one picture says everything!! LOVE ❤️#happysunday 🍕" As with other posts, commenters were quick to point out the family resemblance, with one writing, "Wow your granddaughter looks just like you!! " while another added, "WoW Rio looks just like Grandma Goldie!!!!"

In terms of how they've managed to create such a warm and loving family atmosphere, Russell and Hawn have been able to do so since spending quality time together is one of their priorities in life. "We always trim the tree on Christmas Eve and we have a big meal,” Russell told Closer Weekly. "The grandkids put their pajamas on and hang up their stockings. We get the fire going and when it gets dark we always choose someone to read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.'"

It is also important for Hawn to celebrate big events with her grandchildren throughout the year, such as Rio's preschool graduation and charity functions for the Goldie Hawn Foundation. The Goldie Hawn Foundation has a specific project, called "MindUp!" The project's goal is to provide education to underprivileged children. According to the charity's website, MindUp's goal is to "promote an equitable and inclusive world bringing us all together as one." Photos of such events on her social media show how close the family truly feels with one another. 

In February 2020, Hawn and Hudson posed for the cover of People Magazine along with Hudson's daughter Rani. “When your daughter has a daughter, it’s a big deal,” Hawn told People. “I mean, it really is.” Kate Hudson added, “And now with little Rani Rose, I was so excited. The third generation.” This was another opportunity for Hawn and her family to not only spend some time together but also to talk about how much family means to them.

During the cover shoot, the mom and daughter—and her daughter's daughter!—also took time to talk in a short video interview, in which they discussed the importance of family and how parents can really help to support their children by being there for them and lifting them up. Hudson said during the shoot:

“My mom gave me the floor to be able to feel confident enough to go out and feel like my life could be my own,” said Hudson. “Mom was my greatest cheerleader. And it just made me think about Rani…going, ‘I hope I give her that kind of confidence,’ you know?”

Hawn's relationship with Russell is another important factor that has made an impact on their family. After all, 37 years is not a short time, and in Hollywood especially, having a long and healthy marriage is quite rare. Hawn is 75 years old, but you wouldn't think it with how active and full of life she is. Her adorable and loving relationship with Russell, who is 69 years old, is the sweetest, with the obvious affection they have for each other more akin to a group of teenage sweethearts than a couple that's been together for 37 years! The couple often shares sweet moments from their relationship on social media, giving the public a glimpse into their private world.

Hudson said of the couple, "To live up to that is really the goal,” she said. “Just the fact that they’ve been able to maintain a unit for all of us, in times of turmoil, they really are the center of all of our lives." Speaking with People Magazine in April 2020, Hudson described how her parents have their differences, but that this can also bring together balance. She said:

“Mom is kinetic and she is a butterfly. And Pa likes his family and his home. But when they’re together, it’s so powerful.” 

Hawn also added, "When you have your children and you have a man who loves your children, that’s a very tough bond."

Kurt and Goldie have been together since 1983. They initially met in 1966 while filming together, but reconnected on the set of their film Swing Shift, and have been inseparable ever since, even going on to star in further movies together after becoming romantically involved. The couple has even joined each other on-screen again in the last few years in The Christmas Chronicles movies, where, rather fittingly, they play Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The first movie was released in 2018, while the sequel just came out in November 2020. We couldn't think of a better pair to play the iconic roles than Hollywood's golden couple Hawn and Russell. 

However, one interesting thing about their relationship is that the couple never chose to get married. Hawn openly discussed the topic in a 2007 interview with Woman's Day magazine. Asked why they won't head down the aisle, Hawn responded: 

"Because we have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted and isn't that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving, then we're fine."

She goes on to mention their children and how they've managed to raise them into "beautiful people," adding:

"We did a great job there and we didn't have to get married to do that. I like waking up every day and seeing that he is there and knowing that I have a choice. There is really no reason to marry."

Considering theirs is one of Hollywood's longest-lasting relationships, they've clearly proven their point that marriage is unnecessary as long as there is love, respect, and mutual compassion towards one another. Kurt even weighed in on the topic in an interview with the Daily Mail in 2018, saying:

"Everyone has their marker on what is really important and where you draw the line. For Goldie and me, that core value was this: the kids come first. That big movie I turned down came at an age when they really needed one of us around."

That kind of commitment to family is what truly holds people together and fosters a loving environment where everyone is able to individually flourish while having the support of their loved ones. Considering how Hawn and Russell have raised their children, it's clear that their kids, including Oliver and Kate Hudson, will raise their own children, such as Goldie Hawn's look-alike granddaughter Rio Hudson, with the same kind of love.
