Rhino Orphans Are Adorable While Running And Playing Like Children

The internet is known for having an ample amount of adorable animal videos. From puppies chasing their own tails to bunnies hopping excitedly in tall green grass, there’s no shortage of cuteness in the form of animal videos. One video that has been capturing hearts from people all over the world features two incredible rhino orphans.

The animals were rescued and brought to a sanctuary in South Africa run by Saving the Survivors. They were originally found and rescued by the Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation in Johannesburg, South Africa. The foundation works with a list of sanctuaries to help give animals the safe and loving home they deserve. Just like children, these precious rhino orphans had a blast running and playing in the grass. You could feel the sheer happiness radiating from them as they frolicked through the safety and freedom of the sanctuary’s yard.

Unfortunately, these rhinos have a heartbreaking backstory. Poaching African rhinos for illegal trade of their horns has sadly grown in popularity over the years, but there are fortunately several groups dedicated to protecting them from potential poachers and hazardous conditions. These groups typically also work to educate others about the harmful realities of poaching.

Thankfully, these rhino orphans are some of the lucky ones who no longer need to worry about any dangerous situation they might have been faced with had they not been rescued. These rhinos are able to run around and play just like children do. They’ll continue to get bigger and grow up as the years go by, but for now, they’re happy being young and free.

According to The Dodo, these baby rhinos were just 6-months-old when they were rescued as orphans from the wild in South Africa. They will continue to grow and be nurtured by those who work and volunteer for the Saving the Survivors sanctuary, with added help from donations.

Paul Oxton of the Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation filmed a video of the two rhinos playing with each other as they ran happily and freely throughout the sanctuary’s yard. According to the Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation’s website, the foundation is a small non-profit organization that works at helping the wildlife most at risk and works hands-on with the animals the foundation rescues. The goal is to help every animal as much as possible.

“People don’t always realize what’s left behind by the poaching scourge we face,” Oxton told The Dodo. “Oftentimes, when an animal is poached, there’s a young one left orphaned.” Oxton explained that taking care of these survivors is his driving force to continue on with his work. Fortunately, all of his hard work seems to be paying off.

The two rhino orphans that were rescued are now living a happy and carefree life and look like they have a blast with one another. They appeared to really care for each other as they ran side by side throughout the perimeter of the sanctuary’s yard. At a later portion of the video, the rhinos even seemed to have a friendly face-off as they playfully ran head-on toward each other. They quickly went back to freely roaming the grass shortly after. Who knew rhinos could be so childlike?
