Retiring Officer Overwhelmed With Emotion When He Hears Cop Son's Voice During Final Radio Call

Retirement is something everyone in the workforce looks forward to, but it can still be a very emotional experience.

Your work can come to define you in many ways, and saying goodbye can be like saying goodbye to ten of your best friends at once.

It can be even more emotional when you have a career like being a police officer.

When this highway patrolman was about to end his career for good, something absolutely incredible was heard over the radio that touched him deeply.

When Roy Martin was about to make his final radio calls, no doubt a very sentimental experience for an officer with over three decades on the force in Arkansas, he heard a familiar voice.

It was his son, Billy, also an officer:

"Attention all units, it is a great pleasure to announce, after 31 years of dedicated service, my dad, Cpl.Roy Martin, of the Arkansas Highway Police, Badge No. 420, is retiring and given his final 10-7,"

Billy said.

He also referred to Roy as "the greatest man I know" in the video and mentioned how he and his siblings love his father. This show of love brought tears to Roy's eyes. He told his fellow officers to stay safe.

This family clearly has a proud tradition of police work. Roy inspired his son to become a loyal servant of the law, and his son wanted him to know how much of an impact he had made.

Even if Roy knew this to be true, having the confirmation heard over the radio was likely one of the most meaningful things he's ever heard. Though his career might be over, Roy can go into retirement knowing that he touched people and changed their lives for the better.
