Rescuers Free Wild Horse Stuck In A Muddy Pond For Five Hours

A wild horse stuck in a muddy pond for five hours was rescued after a 45-minute effort led by the Help Alberta Wildies Society in Canada earlier last month.

This video shows the dramatic rescue of a wild horse that had gotten stuck in a bog. The Help Alberta Wildies Society (HAWS) didn’t know she was there; they found her when driving past the spot where she had given up the struggle, resigned to her situation, stuck in a hole.

Luckily, HAWS was just the group that this horse needed to help her out of this mess; as animal lovers and humans with hearts, they canceled their plans to get her out of the mud and onto her feet again.

How did the filly become stuck in the hole? She had probably been roaming with the rest of her herd when she fell in, and they ran off without her.

She had been stranded for hours before the rescuers came upon her accidentally. Those must have been some lonely, frightening hours, stuck at the mercy of nature on a cold day. At last, they managed to pull her out. Though she was exhausted and obviously frightened, she must have recognized them as her heroes, because she didn’t run away from them.

“She knew we were trying to help her,” one of the rescuers told CBC News. When people act from the heart, the most horrible situations can be mended. We’re sure this wild horse was grateful when she saw HAWS come to save her; they took the time out of their busy day to do what they love most, helping animals.

Let their persistence serve as an example to us about how to help a person—or horse—in need. It’s always worth the time put in when you feel the other’s gratitude.
