A video posted in November of 2019 shows a montage of a golden retriever and a rescue kitten sleeping together. They snuggle and cuddle in the most adorable ways, which makes them look like they're totally in love with each other. When the cat gave birth, the golden retriever became an honorary mom to her kittens.

Conventional wisdom tells us that cats and mice are sworn enemies, and to a lesser extent, so are cats and dogs. But one sweet pair of friends has challenged these notions.

A Cat Meets a Gentle Dog

Golden retrievers are well-known for being great family dogs. They're friendly, intelligent, and they love to work. They're good with children because they're generally very gentle. Originally, these dogs were bred to help hunters.

When the hunter took down a small animal like a bird, the dog would go and retrieve it. They're an incredibly popular dog in countries around the world, including the US, UK, and Canada.

Normally, a golden retriever will be an open, friendly dog. It's very possible to introduce a golden to other pets and have good success with that. Other breeds like Jack Russells can be combative, but golden retrievers tend to be big, fluffy balls of love.

One family has been able to see this good nature in action. Their golden retriever and cat became fast friends shortly after meeting. They didn't just tolerate each other; they became a real family.

Then, one day, something unusual happened: the cat gave birth to kittens! Because they already knew each other and had a great friendship, she was lucky to help her dog friend share in parenting duties. Today, the golden retriever is an honorary cat mom. Picking up a kitten, cuddling with them to keep them warm, and playing with them, he's one of the greatest inter-species babysitters of all time.

Of course, it's important to note that kittens should not be introduced to just any animal. Normally, mama cats are overprotective. However, while she keeps a close eye on her dog friend, this cat knows that she can trust her dog companion. After all, they've been together as part of a family for ages.
