A reporter who was recently covering a California wildfire was close enough to the story to become a part of it. Kristine Lazar recently had this experience while covering a fire in her area.

On December 6, 2017, CBS2 reporter Kristine Lazar was one of the anchors reporting about the toll the recent wildfires have had on the state of California. They were a little closer to the action than they realized, and gathered some amazing news footage for that reason.

Black smoke and leaping flames became a close part of the scene’s background as the report on the wildfires progressed. The fires got close enough, fast enough to become a threat to several stranded horses spotted during the newscast.

Lazar began hearing people screaming for help. She then realized that the horses behind her were stuck behind gates and were stranded. Lazar dropped her reporting to assist the 50 horses to safety at this family ranch on that day.

She stopped reporting, put her microphone down, and began leading horses out of their pens to safety. Her cinematographer also put down the camera and helped the horses get to safety. The 50 beautiful animals survived the wildfire that took over their pens and farm unscathed.

The horses’ owner expressed her appreciation to the camera person and reporter for their assistance in saving her horses. Work well done!
