Rebel Wilson's weight loss this year has been an important milestone for her to celebrate. The 40-year-old recently spoke to People magazine about her past eating habits and how the lockdown played a part in her adjusting her diet and dedicating herself to improved health. Her weight loss of about 40lbs has certainly been phenomenal, and she talks about her "year of health" and how it has changed her life this month.

A recent interview with People has given Rebel Wilson, 40, a chance to talk about her weight loss and how the pandemic has brought some positivity into her life. She says that at the beginning of her year, she switched up her eating habits, which has had a major impact on her overall weight loss as well as a healthier lifestyle. The most important difference has been a switch to a high-protein diet.

“Before I was probably eating 3,000 calories most days, and because they were normally carbs, I would still be hungry,” the Isn't It Romantic star said. “So, I've really changed to eating a high-protein diet, which is challenging because I didn't used to eat a lot of meat,” she added. “I eat fish, salmon, and chicken breast.”

For many people who are not used to eating meat, a high-protein diet can be a big change. It requires dedication too, of course, which Wilson has shown and has reaped the rewards. However, it may also be a hindrance if one is chained to a diet without allowing any space for flexibility. This midset — one that gives wiggle room to go with the flow — has also been important in Wilson's overall weight loss. She admits that she 'cheats' sometimes, but it isn't anything to punish oneself over.

“It doesn't mean every week is a healthy week,” she says. “Some weeks are just write-offs, and there’s nothing you can do about that.”

"I'm just trying to go for overall balance, overall healthy balance," she says.

"I have this state of being, which is not my quote, but I go 'Nothing is forbidden.' We’ll be like, 'Should we get In-N-Out burger?' And I'm like, 'Nothing is forbidden.' I can go there, I just might eat half of what I used to eat before. You know? And I'll have a burger, and a few fries, and then you feel fine."

Losing weight is also not easy for many people because external factors can contribute to unhealthy eating habits, which end up becoming a vicious cycle if not addressed early on. For Rebel Wilson, the intensely bright light of fame certainly had a hand in how she coped in unhealthy ways. The corona pandemic and the resulting lockdowns have helped Wilson to deal with her coping methods and therefore lose weight.

“I really took it as time to get really well-rested and de-stress,” she says. “Because most of my stress is work-related." The time off was also a chance for Wilson to rework her mindset about food and change “bad habits to healthier ones.”

Wilson also opened up to Drew Barrymore on The Drew Barrymore Show about her weight loss process. She first says in the video below, "For the last few years, I've been theme-ing my years. So I had the 'Year of Fun,' last year I had the 'Year of Love,' and this year it's gonna be the 'Year of Health' because I turned 40 this year in March."

She goes on to say, "I never really focused on my health, which was probably obvious. I was going all around the world jet-setting everywhere and eating a ton of sugar. That was kind of my vice. I have a very sweet tooth. I love desserts."

She also adds that being internationally famous has taken a large toll on her, which contributed to her emotional eating. Many of us can possibly relate to emotional eating, as it is common to think of food as a comfort to turn to during hard times.

While Wilson does have plans to lose more weight according to Women's Health, her eventual goal is not to be skinny but healthy. "I love my curves and stuff. I don't think I'll ever go too skinny, but I feel so much healthier," she shared.

The weight loss has also reflected changes in her mental health and professional life, as she feels so much more confident in herself, and feels much more control of her life. She has been producing movies and content, which she says is "amazing." She also adds, "Everything seems to be coming together. Maybe I was a late bloomer or something, but I'm slowly getting it together."

Weight loss has certainly been a wonderful process overall for Wilson! To hear more about her thoughts and her journey, you can watch the video below:
