At the end of 2019, Rebel Wilson made a promise to herself; she vowed to make 2020 her "Year of Health," and to reach her ideal weight of 75kg. It would be a year for the Australian actress to prioritize her mental and physical health and commit to achieving her goals. On November 29, the Pitch Perfect actress revealed she had reached her goal—with a whole month to spare! That's an impressive feat.

Wilson, who turned 40 in March, posted an Instagram Story to share the happy news with her followers. She included a photo of the weight displayed on her scales: 74.6 kgs, or 165 pounds.

According to US Weekly, she wrote:

"Hit my goal with one month to spare. Even though it's not about a weight number, it's about being healthy, I needed a tangible measurement to have as a goal and that was 75kg's."

She continued by saying she wanted to give some more insight into her journey: "I wanna go live on Insta on Tuesday night when I'm back in U.S. to share stuff with you guys and thank everyone for their support. S000 until then … 6pm NYC time."

In another post the star shared in January, Wilson had a few encouraging words for others who might find themselves stumbling on their own health journeys.

"Even if you have to crawl towards your goals, keep going x it will be worth it," she wrote. "Try and give a little bit of effort each day. I know some days are frustrating as hell, you feel like giving up, you get annoyed at the lack of progress … but good things are coming your way."

Wilson, who is known for her no-nonsense, honest approach to life, continued by stating her goals in her post: "I'll be honest with you guys—with my 'Year of Health' mission, I'm trying to get to 75kg's and career-wise, [I] am trying to get one of my movies into production before the end of the year!"

The star spent the month of November in the VivaMayr health resort in Austria in a move to ensure she reached her goal. The high-end luxury medical resort and wellness center offers a weight-loss plan complete with a custom-tailored nutrition and fitness plan. The actor told People magazine at the time that she had chosen to go back to "boost my immune system and lose my last two kilos.

"I went back because 2021 is going to be an insanely busy year with project after project, so I wanted to come back to VivaMayr," Wilson said.

The resort helps clients reach their fitness goals by following the 'Mayr Method,' based on the Mayr cure. The cure was developed over a century ago by Austrian physician Dr. Franz Xaver Mayr, whose method includes eliminating snacking, reducing sugar and gluten consumption, and changing how patients chew their food.

According to Today, followers of the method start with some "light fasting" and a monotonous diet to detox the body. Once the detoxification process is complete, the patients are encouraged to eliminate dairy products and eat foods with high alkaline content, like fish and vegetables.

Alongside the program, Wilson did lots of outdoor hikes and woke up early to fit her workouts. This perfect combination of fitness and diet gave her the final push she needed to reach her goal.

Dr. Maximilian Schubert, the medical director of VivaMayr, told Today that their philosophy does not include obsessing over calories.

"We are not a big fan of measuring calories," he explained. "I can give you a teaspoon or tablespoon of linseed oil, which is rich in omega-3 oils but has lots of calories, but you will never get fat out of that oil. Calories are not the ideal measurement for increasing or decreasing weight."

She concluded her declaration by as she said

"So I put on the athleisure and went out for a walk, deliberately hydrating on the couch right now and trying to avoid the sugar and junk food which is going to be hard after the holidays I've just had but I'm going to do it… Who's with me in making some positive changes this year?"

Filming the film version of the musical Cats in 2019 was when Wilson first began to lose weight. She lost an immense eight pounds in only four days on set—though it is important to note that this is not a healthy way to lose weight and should not be recommended!

 She revealed to E.T.:

"They heated up the set very high, to almost 100°F, so that we could never cool down. These people are like, the best dancers in the whole world, so they can't cool their muscles down or they could get an injury and they'd be out of the film."

In an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show in October, Wilson shared how close she already was to reaching her weight goal, confirming she was only six pounds away from the magic number. She explained that before 2020, she "never really focused" on her health. While her career saw her jet setting to many different places and building momentum as an actor, she had little physical activity and ate a questionable diet. According to the actor, she was eating "a ton of sugar" and too many carbs. While she had previously tried fad diets in the past, none of it was sustainable. That's why with her "year of health," she aimed to take a holistic approach to weight loss.

"I love my curves and stuff and I don't think I'll ever go to skinny, but I feel so much healthier. And I don't know whether it's a thing with ladies when you turn 40, [but] I feel like I really have come into my own now and not just with health but with my career," Wilson said.

"I get to produce movies now which is amazing and kind of, I have more control over the content. And do I just feel like, I don't know, everyhing seems to be coming together. Maybe I was a late bloomer or something," the actor added.

Wilson's reason behind her decision to start her weight loss journey, she claimed, was her realization that Hollywood bosses were paying her to "stay bigger." While her size might have ensured her many high-profile movie roles, it was also taking a toll on her health. Speaking to The Sun last year, the 40-year-old admitted the overeating was starting to "mess with her head."

"It's not like I want to lose weight and get to around a certain number," Wilson said. "It's more than that, it's about dealing mentally with why I was overeating and I had a job where I was paid a lot of money to be bigger, at times which kind of can mess with your head a bit."

The Cats actor explained she began doing high-intensity interval training (HIIT), mobility, weight and resistance training, and technique and tempo workouts six days a week. As for nutrition, Wilson says she's made the switch to a high-protein diet. In a more recent interview with People, she revealed she was consuming about 3,000 calories a day before embarking on her health journey. She claims the key is consistency – not restriction.

"It doesn't mean every week is a healthy week," Wilson said. "Some weeks are just write-offs, and there's nothing you can do about that."

In fact, the actor explained that she's since adopted a 'nothing is forbidden' policy.

"I'm just trying to go for overall balance, overall healthy balance," she explained. "I have this state of being, which is not my quote, but I go 'nothing is forbidden.' We'll be like, 'Should we get In-N-Out burger?' And I'm like, 'nothing is forbidden.' I can go there, I just might eat half of what I used to eat before. You know? And I'll have a burger, and a few fries, and then you feel fine."

The 40-year-old credits her weight-loss success to the Coronavirus pandemic. Her limited social life and diminished working schedule meant Wilson now had the time to work on her mental and physical health. "I really took it as time to get really well-rested and de-stress," she said. "Because most of my stress is work-related."

And with that comes one of the most important aspects of a healthy, sustainable weight loss: loving oneself. For Wilson, that meant working on finding her confidence again.

"I think I was emotional eating and overeating at times because I wasn't loving myself enough," she told People. And it does come down to that self-worth and self-love."

That also meant Wilson would have to disassociate her self-worth from the scales and, instead, measure her success through how she felt.

"I would say to everyone out there don't be obsessed about how much you actually weigh," the 40-year-old explained. "It's more about all the healthy practices, and then the changes to your whole lifestyle."

And although 2020 has officially come to an end – and with it, her 'year of health' – her new, healthier habits are here to stay.
