Rare Snaps Show Heath Ledger & Michelle Williams’ Teen Daughter Is The Spitting Image Of Her Late Father

Heath Ledger’s death remains one of the most devastating in Hollywood. The actor died aged just 28, with a toxicology report finding a fatal combination of prescription drugs in his system at the time of his passing. Heath is survived by one child, a daughter he had with actress Michelle Williams. When he passed away, his daughter was only 2 years old. In the 17 years since Heath’s tragic passing in 2008, his daughter, Matilda Ledger, has grown into a young woman who carries more than just his name – she also shares his unmistakable features. 

Matilda turned 19 years old in 2024, and now thoroughly resembles her late, famous father, from her expressive eyes to her easygoing demeanor. The teenager has mostly been kept out of the spotlight by her mother, but rare photographs show that Matilda is Heath’s mini-me. As she steps into adulthood, fans and loved ones alike can’t help but notice how much she mirrors Heath. 

Many were shocked to see how much she has grown after being photographed out and about in Brooklyn, New York, nearly a week after her father’s passing anniversary, staying warm in a green puffer jacket and blue denim jeans. She accessorized the outfit with a red tote bag and red shoes. Matilda appeared to be having fun as she grabbed coffee with a friend. Although she stays out of the spotlight, she was spotted holding hands with her mother in the summer of 2024.

While Matilda mostly keeps a low profile, Williams has often spoken about her teenage daughter in interviews. In November 2022, Williams appeared on “Live With Kelly and Ryan,” where she joked about the age gaps between Matilda and her two much younger children, saying that she’ll “be raising kids and having grandkids.”

She also joked that Matilda said she would leave her future children with Williams as her two youngest children will still be minors in a few years. 

"She said she's going to drop them off with me because I'm going to still be in the little kids business," Williams said.

She also revealed that her teenage daughter loves getting into the spirit of Christmas and that they have watched “White Christmas” many times. She shared:

"Matilda loves those movies so, so much and I'm excited to have her show those to the younger kids."  

Williams also explained the reasoning behind keeping Matilda away from the limelight in an interview in 2018. She expressed her desire to ensure that her daughter’s upbringing was as stable and normal as it could possibly be, saying:

“She hasn’t had her routine disrupted and hasn’t missed class.”

Although Williams and Heath were separated at the time of his passing, raising Matilda without Heath was still difficult for the “My Week With Marilyn” actress. However, she has since found love and is married to theatre director Thomas Kail. As for her parenting philosophy with Matilda, Williams said:

“I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free.”
