As Australia continues to have one of the worst bushfire crises, a little bit of hope trickled through as rain poured down on New South Wales. The Australian bushfires have been ravaging the southeast coast since last year, and have so far displaced many from their homes. More than 20 people have been reported to have lost their lives with many more missing.

According to the Telegraph, rains opened up on New South Wales on Thursday helping to dampen blazes ravaging the area. Rural Fire Service said on social media, "Relief is here for a number of firefighters working across NSW, although this rain won't extinguish all fires, it will certainly go a long way towards containment."

Residents are grateful for the downpours however they hope more will come. "We're thrilled and so relieved to have some dampness in the air because it makes things safe for a little while," resident Virginia Connor told AFP. "But we need more, we need lots more."
Although this rainfall is a blessing, meteorologists report that Australia will not see relief until March. "We still have a long way to go," said Robyn Duell, a senior climatologist with the Bureau of Meteorology to the Telegraph.
"While outlooks for drier than average conditions have eased compared to those issued for late 2019, several months of above-average rainfall are needed to see a recovery from current long-term rainfall deficiencies," he continued. Through March to May austrailia will receive the most rainfall.
