Quentin Tarantino Got Six-Minute Standing Ovation At Cannes For ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’

The world premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s 9th film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” at the Cannes Film Festival seemed to be just as dramatic as the film itself. Variety reports that audiences and journalists were clamoring to get into the screening, and were not disappointed at the end of it when they erupted into a six-minute standing ovation.

The film paints a picture of 1969 Hollywood and envelopes the story of Charles Manson into the plot, through the eyes of a cowboy actor played by Leonardo Dicaprio. Brad Pitt stars opposite him as his stunt double and Margot Robbie joins the cast as Sharon Tate. The presence of the three A-List actors at the premiere made the red carpet one of the most glamorous at Cannes or even the world.

Director Quentin Tarantino relished the red carpet attention as he posed with the DiCaprio, Pitt, and Robbie, mouthing “I love you” to his wife Daniela Pick, and yelling “Vive le cinéma” to the crowd while cameras flashed. The media circus might have been warranted, as Variety claims that it is one of the most highly anticipated films at Cannes, and journalists were queuing for two hours for a chance to see it.

Once the excitement died down and people took their seats for the film’s start, it was clear that there were also some fantastic cameos by Timothy Olyphant, Bruce Dern, and even Lena Dunham from “Girls” as a Manson girl. Audiences will also enjoy the presence of talented actor Kurt Russell, the legendary Al Pacino, and the captivating Luke Perry in one of his final roles.

When the credits rolled and the film ended, audiences erupted into a standing ovation that lasted for a whole 6 minutes. Variety notes that while almost every film receives a standing ovation at Cannes, this was one of the longest in duration. It also might not translate into a positive audience reception once it hits theaters on July 26.
