Today, April 21, 2020, marks the 94th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, but in regard to the current situation everyone faces in times of the coronavirus, her Majesty is not able to celebrate her special day with her annual birthday parade, also known as Trooping the Colour. Instead, the Queen is going to have a video call with members of the royal family to celebrate her birthday.

While Queen Elizabeth “was keen that no special measures were put in place to allow gun salutes as she did not feel it appropriate in the current circumstances,” as a spokesman for Buckingham Palace announced according to The Guardian, she obviously still wants to celebrate her birthday with her loved ones. Therefore aides have been figuring out a way to set up a big family hangout via video call so that the Queen is able to catch up with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on her 94th birthday, as MailOnline reports.

Just like the royal family, we too want to celebrate the monarch's birthday in the best way possible. In honor of her special day, we, therefore, take a look back at her exceptional life:

94 years ago, Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born on April 21, 1926, in Mayfair, an affluent area in the West End of London. Elizabeth was the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, who would later ascend the throne as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. As their first child Elizabeth herself was born as an heiress to the throne.

Young Elizabeth was homeschooled instead of visiting a public school and therefore received education at home. During World War II her focus laid on the fulfillment of public duties, she actually served as a car mechanic in the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

On 20 November 1947 Elizabeth married Prince Philip, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, at Westminster Abbey In 1947. The couple had known each other for quite a few years before their marriage as they first met back in 1934. After their wedding, Philip and Elizabeth had three sons, Charles, Prince of Wales, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, as well as one daughter, Anne, Princess Royal.

Their marriage happens to be the longest of any British sovereign, as they have been married for 72 years so far and The Queen is still more than fond of her husband, in an emotional tribute on their golden wedding anniversary she revealed: "He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years."

Five years after the marriage, Elizabeth’s beloved father, King George VI, passed away. As his firstborn, Elizabeth, therefore, took his place as the head of the Commonwealth and became the queen regnant of the independent Commonwealth countries (the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon) in 1953.

So far Queen Elizabeth II has reigned for 67 years, which makes her the longest-reigning and longest-lived monarch in British history as well as the longest-reigning queen regnant and female head of state in the world’s history, according to Express. She has seen 13 Prime Ministers come and go while major political changes occurred all over the world under her tenure.

Queen Elizabeth has eight grandchildren as well as eight great-grandchildren. On the Queen’s last birthday one of her great-grandchildren, Louis, the youngest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, stole the show, as the whole royal family got together on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the annual Trooping the Colour, the grand celebration honoring the queen's birthday.

Hopefully, the Queen's birthday will be just as wonderful this year, even though the royal family will celebrate in a totally different way. Happy birthday, your Majesty!
