Escape artist, Sophie, a 1-year-old Maltese puppy kept baffling her mom as she would constantly break free from her kennel. Her mom didn’t understand how Sophie could keep getting out after she thought she securely latched her kennel. It turns out, Sophie had an accomplice, 6-year-old German Shepherd Twitch.

Determined to figure out how Sophie was escaping her crate, her mom set up a hidden camera to see how she did it. In the video, you can see the mom sticking Sophie in the kennel and then securely closing the latch on her cage and covering it with a towel. Twitch is following close behind watching their every move.

As the mom leaves the room, Twitch makes sure the coast is clear, then he dives into action to free Sophie. He pulls the towel off of the kennel and assesses how he can open the kennel. He nudges it a few times with his snout before he is able to slide the latch over, he then uses his paw to open the door for Sophie.

Sophie prances out and Twitch gives her a few licks and the two escape out of the camera’s view. The American Kennel Club lists German Shepherds as highly intelligent breeds who like companionship. It’s no wonder Twitch was able to use one of his characteristics to satisfy the other!
