Many people shy away from having a pup of their own because they worry about leaving their dog at home alone during their workday. However, people forget about the joyful hours that you can spend with your dog before and after work, not to mention weekends spent exploring your town or visiting various parks! There are many dogs out there that need loving homes, so why let your workday keep them from having a happy home with a loving human companion?
Were you aware that dogs actually have the innate ability to actually tell time? Well, not in the way that we humans can look at a clock or a watch and realize we’re running late for work, again.
Have you ever seen your dog or a friend’s dog perk up seconds before you hear a car pull in the driveway or seem to just magically know when someone is about to ring your doorbell?
There are a lot of really cool ways that dogs can determine how much time has passed and gauge what time of day to expect their owner home.

We all know that dogs have absolutely phenomenal smelling skills. Bentley the dog is no different. Like most dogs, he can tell how much time has passed during his owner’s work day by smelling how much of his dad’s scent is still lingering in the air.
This lets Bentley, like all dogs, determine how much time has gone by, helping him know approximately when he can expect his dad to return home from his work day.
Bentley’s dad is in his first year working as a medical intern, keeping him away for a good deal of time during lengthy shifts. However, those lengthy shifts are quite regular, meaning Bentley’s dad comes home at about the same time every day.
Every day, Bentley knows how much time has passed and he does an incredible job of knowing when he can expect his dad to come home.
Every day Bentley waits patiently for his dad to come home before sprinting to the door with excitement. When Bentley hears the door start to open he immediately greets his dad with adorable kisses and jumps that help him get closer to his dad.
Clearly, Bentley doesn’t mind at all that he has some “alone time” during the day while his dad is hard at work.
Dogs are such affectionate pets who love their owners to no end. Dogs and their humans have an incredible bond. What do you think about Bentley’s daily joy at seeing his dad come home? Do you and your pet share a special daily routine? We always enjoy hearing your thoughts on adorable stories like the one of Bentley’s special daily greeting for his dad!
