Every so often, the public is offered a rare glimpse into the private world of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. While the couple has traditionally shared updates through curated press releases and select appearances, 2025 was different. Meghan became more active, engaging with fans through social media in the lead-up to the release of her Netflix series “With Love, Meghan” in March.
Still, when one of their children celebrates a birthday, it captures special attention. On June 4, 2024, Harry and Meghan marked the third birthday of their daughter Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. As Lilibet turns 4 in 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on her sweet milestones.
The tiny tot was born in Santa Barbara, California. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first announced they were expecting their second child on Valentine’s Day in 2021 and revealed the baby’s sex during the infamous March 2021 interview special “Oprah with Meghan and Harry.”
Before Lilibet’s birth, royal watchers predicted that Harry and Meghan would choose to honor both the late Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Philip by picking a meaningful name for their daughter, according to Express UK.
On June 6, 2021, the couple released a statement about their daughter’s birth: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.”
The statement continued: “Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”

The statement also addressed Princess Lilibet’s meaningful name:
“Lili is named after her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother and former Princess of Wales, Princess Diana.
Prince Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson concluded their statement:
“This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”
Lilibet’s first birthday in June 2022 was quite the event. The late Queen Elizabeth had yet to meet her youngest great-grandchild until that year’s Platinum Jubilee, which coincided with the young princess’s birthday. Until then, Elizabeth had actually only seen Lilibet virtually.
As PEOPLE magazine was told by a source close to the couple, Elizabeth was the first to meet little Lili via a video call. PEOPLE had already reported beforehand that the late queen had known Harry and Meghan wanted to pass her nickname down to their daughter.
US Weekly reported that the late queen and Lilibet did indeed meet in June 2022, just a few short months before Elizabeth passed later in September that year. An insider shared:
“After reluctantly pulling out of Party at the Palace, spending time with her great-grandchildren and seeing Lilibet turn 1 added some light to her day. She thinks they’re adorable and gave Lili and Archie gifts.”
On June 7, 2022, Harry and Meghan shared with the world the first official photo of Lilibet. Taken by their photographer friend Misan Harriman, Lilibet looked adorable in a sky-blue dress, beaming with a big smile.
“It was such a privilege to celebrate the 1st birthday of Lilibet with my family and hers! Joy and face painting all around ❤️🎂🎉,” Harriman said on Instagram about Lilibet’s birthday celebration.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Princess Catherine, also offered their best wishes to Lilibet on social media, where they wrote:
“Wishing a very happy birthday to Lilibet, turning one today! 🎈”
Likewise, King Charles III and Queen Camilla also shared their greetings through their social media account, Clarence House.
“Wishing Lilibet a very happy 1st birthday today! 🎂,” they said in a tweet.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan decided not to release any photos of Lilibet in 2023 to mark her second birthday. Although the Waleses and the king and queen greeted her on her first birthday, they stayed mum on her second birthday. Lilbet’s birthday came months after her father, Harry, released his controversial memoir, “Spare,” which contained several anecdotes critical of British royal family members.
Page Six reported royal sources had claimed King Charles and Queen Camilla wouldn’t share any official greetings for Lilibet because they “don’t mark the birthdays of non-working members.”
“They, of course, wish Lilibet a very happy birthday, but nothing will be put out on any channels,” a source told OK! Magazine UK.
Express UK even reported that King Charles planned to give Lilibet a “custom-made cubby house” for her second birthday.
Prince Harry and Meghan celebrated Lilibet’s third birthday in 2024 with an intimate gathering at their Montecito, California, home. The celebration included close friends, family, and some of Lilibet’s young friends. However, that year as well, Harry and Meghan did not release official photos or statements for Lilibet’s birthday.
In August 2024, Meghan shared during a panel in Colombia that Lilibet, then 3, had “found her voice,” expressing pride in her daughter’s growing confidence. That December, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released their annual holiday card, featuring a rare photo of Lilibet and her brother Archie running toward them. The card read:
“On behalf of the office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation.”

On International Women’s Day in March 2025, Meghan posted a heartfelt photo of Harry holding Lilibet during a boat ride, part of a tribute to the women and girls in her life. The post opened with a photo of Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland. The caption read:
“Happy International Women’s Day! Celebrating the strong women around us & the girls with dreams who will become women with vision. Also thanking those who uplift us every day.”
On April 27, 2025, Meghan shared another tender moment – a photo of Lilibet and Archie picking pink roses. She captioned it, “Sunday kind of love...with my little loves,” reflecting their peaceful home life in Montecito. In a touching celebration of Mother’s Day on May 11, 2025, Meghan shared an intimate photograph with her children.
The caption read:
“Happy Mother’s Day! Cheers to juggling it all with joy! And to these two gems – who still attempt to climb “mama mountain”, smother me with kisses, and make every day the most memorable adventure….being your mom is the greatest privilege of my life ❤️”
Meghan continued:
“I, too, “love you more than all the stars in all the sky, all the raindrops, and all the salt on all the french fries in all the world.”
In a candid conversation on “The Jamie Kern Lima Show” in the same month, Meghan opened up about the constant pressure to meet expectations:
“We spend so much of our life trying to prove something. To prove that you’re enough. You have to prove that you’re pretty enough. You have to prove that you’re smart enough.”
As Lilibet approaches her fourth birthday in June 2025, these precious moments offer a touching and intimate glimpse into her growing world and the loving family life she enjoys.
