When Highland Park High School's prom got canceled in Texas this year due to the coronavirus, special needs student Emily Morrow came up with a plan to save the event, and her fellow students showed their gratitude by making her prom queen.

COVID-19 has changed the rhythms of American life. One of the groups most affected by the coronavirus pandemic has been teenagers. Many high school students have had to give up their parties, proms and even graduation ceremonies. In the community of Highland Park, Texas, one senior in particular was upset when she heard the news that prom was canceled. Emily Morrow quickly saw a silver lining, though. She told her mom that they could just have a prom at their house, according to CBS News.

Emily Morrow is a very popular student in Highland Park as one student explains in an interview with the local news outlet. People apparently love her spirit because she always has a smile and a kind word to share. Emily also has special needs, but that hasn't kept the community from embracing her. In fact, the prom committee from her high school loved the plan of having prom at her house. They found a way to do it with social distancing intact.

Emily got several surprises. First, the three girls responsible for organizing the dance dropped off a sash and bouquet for her, as viewers will see in the video. Emily Morrow, it transpired, had been elected prom queen. Her friends also arranged for a drive-by at her house. As Emily stood and waved, her classmates from school drove by and congratulated her on her new title.

Emily's mother, Laura Morrow, loved her daughter's resilient response to the announcement that prom would be canceled. As soon as Emily suggested they do their own prom, she started making arrangements. The plan for prom night included watching movies, playing music and dancing, Emily's mother told CBS News. It turns out that even though prom was canceled, Emily found a way to bring the party to everyone else. Her whole community wanted to show their support for this extraordinary young woman.
