Princess Lilibet Steals the Show in Playful Family Holiday Photos

The Duchess of Sussex offered an unusually personal glimpse of life with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in a 12-image Instagram carousel captioned “Summer Holiday.”

One photograph captures five-year-old Lilibet suspended above a swimming pool after her father tossed her into the air. The playful pose may resemble a backflip, although a single still image cannot confirm that she completed the movement. Another picture shows seven-year-old Archie sitting in an aircraft cockpit wearing a captain’s hat. Elsewhere, the family appears at the beach, walks through green countryside and shares a meal.

As in many photographs released by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the children are pictured from behind, at a distance or with their faces outside the frame. The carefully selected images give viewers a sense of the family’s holiday without fully exposing Archie and Lilibet to public attention.

The album appears to cover parts of a European trip, including time in Portugal and Britain. A Portuguese restaurant exterior featured in the collection has been linked to the Alentejo region, while another image shows Harry and the children carrying bouquets along a tree-lined path believed to be at Althorp, the Spencer family’s ancestral estate in Northamptonshire. Vogue reported on the family’s visit and the images shared by Meghan.

The photographs offer a warm family portrait and reveal how the Sussexes manage public curiosity while preserving clear boundaries around their children’s identities, routines and private experiences. Even so, the images require careful interpretation. They confirm shared moments by the pool, on the coast and in the countryside; they do not establish the children’s swimming abilities, prove that Lilibet performed a full backflip or reveal every destination on the itinerary.

The apparent visit to Althorp gives the holiday album a deeper family significance. The estate was the childhood home of Diana, Princess of Wales, and has belonged to the Spencer family for more than 500 years. Diana was buried on an island in the estate’s Oval Lake following her death in 1997. The official Althorp website provides more information about the historic Spencer estate.

Because Harry, Archie and Lilibet are shown holding flowers, several reports have suggested that they were walking towards Diana’s resting place. The photograph itself does not confirm where the family was heading, so the moment should be described as a possible tribute rather than a verified visit to the grave.

The Sussexes’ time in Britain also included a reported private meeting with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House. According to coverage of the visit, it was the King’s first in-person meeting with Archie and Lilibet since the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. The children were in Britain during those celebrations, when Lilibet marked her first birthday and the couple released an official portrait taken at Frogmore Cottage.

Harry’s journey also coincided with activities connected to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027. The Duke of Sussex founded the international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. The Birmingham Games are scheduled for July 2027, bringing the competition back to the United Kingdom. The Invictus Games Foundation confirms Birmingham as the host city for the 2027 event.

Together, the holiday photographs balance public interest with the family’s preference for privacy. They show Archie and Lilibet enjoying ordinary childhood experiences while also connecting them with important places in their father’s family history.

“Summer Holiday” is therefore more than a collection of polished travel pictures. It presents a story about play, remembrance and family connection, while leaving the most private parts of the Sussexes’ trip beyond the camera.
