Princess Kate Shines at Royal Ascot in a Joyful Return With Prince William

Jun 18, 2026 by apost team

The Princess of Wales brought a polished royal moment to Royal Ascot on 17 June 2026, appearing alongside Prince William during the second day of the five-day racing meeting in Berkshire. Catherine, who was born on 9 January 1982, smiled and waved from the traditional carriage procession as racegoers gathered for one of the British social season’s best-known events.

Her appearance carried added interest because she did not attend Royal Ascot in 2025 after a late change to her schedule. At the time, reports connected her absence to the careful pacing of public duties following her cancer treatment. The Royal Family’s official website confirmed in January 2025 that Catherine had received treatment at The Royal Marsden and had become joint patron of the hospital with Prince William.

For her return to Ascot, the Princess wore a vivid yellow Roksanda dress with a coordinating Jane Taylor hat, creating one of the most photographed looks of the day. William, who was born on 21 June 1982, wore traditional morning dress and a top hat, with a yellow boutonniere that complemented his wife’s outfit.

The occasion also followed Catherine’s appearances at Trooping the Colour in London and the Order of the Garter service at Windsor Castle, placing Ascot within a carefully managed run of formal royal engagements. Royal Ascot is known for combining elite racing, royal pageantry and formal fashion. The official Ascot timetable lists the Royal Procession as a central part of each day, followed by a full afternoon of racing.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla led the Royal Procession in the first carriage with Lady Sarah Chatto and Daniel Chatto. The Prince and Princess of Wales followed in the second carriage with the Duke and Duchess of Richmond and Gordon. Rory Stewart and his wife, Shoshana Clark, were listed in the third carriage with Lady Sarah Keswick and Fiona Petty-Fitzmaurice, Marchioness of Lansdowne.

As the carriages moved past the stands and into the parade ring, the royal party received cheers from racegoers. Catherine later greeted the King with a curtsey and spoke with Queen Camilla, while William joined conversations with other guests. The Princess Royal, dressed in pink, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were also among the royal attendees, adding to the strong family presence at the Berkshire racecourse.

The Royal Ascot 2026 schedule placed the Queen’s Vase at 3:05 p.m. and the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at 4:20 p.m. on 17 June. The Prince of Wales’s Stakes remains one of the meeting’s major Group 1 races, with a listed prize fund of £1 million. The Guardian reported that Ombudsman won the Prince of Wales’s Stakes on day two, while Limestone won the Queen’s Vase.

The King and Queen also had racing interest on the card through Point Of Law, who carried the royal colours in the Queen’s Vase and finished fourth, according to published race results. For Catherine and William, however, the appearance offered more than a fashionable photo opportunity. It presented a composed return to a beloved royal tradition, framed by public warmth, careful timing and the enduring pageantry of Royal Ascot.
