Princess Eugenie had a big year in 2021, as she welcomed her first child, a baby boy named August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, with her husband, Jack Brooksbank. August is the late Queen Elizabeth's ninth great-grandchild and the first grandchild of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
Eugenie and Brooksbank, an English bar manager and brand ambassador, wed on Oct. 12, 2018, at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The couple is raising their son in Windsor, England, where they've been living in Frogmore Cottage, which is actually owned by Eugenie's cousin Prince Harry. Frogmore Cottage was known for being the UK residence of Harry and Meghan Markle when they were still working royals, but ever since their move to the United States, Harry has offered the place to his cousin and her new family.
Like many other members of the British Royal Family, Prince Eugenie has been very public about her marriage and also, by extension, her family life with their firstborn child. She also makes it a point to have August, her child, be in front of the spotlight like most of his cousins.
She, along with her husband, has shared photos of their adorable young son August on social media. Eugenie used Instagram to let the world know how having her son motivated her as a mother while working relentlessly for the charities and foundations she has supported – a balance that most mothers have been widely praised for!
Princess Eugenie set up her own charity, The Anti-Slavery Collective. It is a charity she launched with her best friend, Julia de Boinville. On its website, it states that they're "an independent collective whose mission is to bring change-makers together to raise awareness for modern slavery as a global epidemic."

Founded in 2017, The Anti-Slavery Collective sees Princess Eugenie and her best friend and co-founder Julia de Boinville trying to raise awareness of the global problem that is modern slavery. Their website states alarming facts, such as that there are currently 49.6 million people currently in modern slavery around the world.
In a previous interview, it was revealed that Eugenie's intention to mount the collective was inspired by the book, "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide," which was given to her by her mother, Sarah Ferguson.
"I think your mum gave us both a copy when we were about 21 years old and it was after we'd been to India to visit a safe house, and the first time we'd learned about human trafficking, and this book really spurred us on and inspired us to set up The Anti-Slavery Collective, so this is a big fan girl moment for Eugenie and I," de Boinville said in an interview with the book's authors, Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.
On top of her work with the charity, Eugenie also holds a full-time position as a director at the art gallery Hauser & Wirth. Having studied art history and English literature at Newcastle University, the princess took this interest in the arts to her first job working for an online auction firm before she took on the role she's in today. Meanwhile, her husband, Jack Brooksbank, is an ambassador for Casamigos, a tequila company.
But alongside their respective careers, the royal couple appears to be thoroughly enjoying their new full-time roles as parents to August. Eugenie has embraced the mom life and has shared some special moments on her personal Instagram, in particular, posting photos of Brooksbank and their young son.

August Philip Hawke Brooksbank was born on Feb. 9 at Portland Hospital in London, which happens to be the same hospital where Eugenie was born. At the time, Buckingham Palace issued a statement after the birth, writing:
"Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, Feb. 9 2021, at 8:55 a.m. at The Portland Hospital. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr. and Mrs. George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
The couple announced the arrival with an Instagram post of a black-and-white family photo and a simple caption of three blue hearts. This was followed days later with a sweet family photo showing August swaddled in a blue blanket. The caption read “Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can't express.”
In an Instagram story, Eugenie had also revealed her son’s second name Philip was in honor of her grandfather, saying “He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers,” according to People.
Being a mother clearly agreed with Eugenie, who, on Mother’s Day in March 2021, posted another picture of baby August as well as a throwback picture of herself as a baby with her mother. The caption read, “I'm so excited to be August's mum and as you can see I'm enjoying my first Mother’s Day. I'm also celebrating my beautiful Mumma with this picture of us from March 1990. You’ve taught me so much.”
On her husband’s birthday on May 3, 2021, Eugenie also shared a small collection of photos that gave royal fans a tiny glimpse of their then-2-month-old son.

The sweet birthday post marked the first time Eugenie had posted on Instagram after her tribute to her grandfather Prince Philip following his death on April 9. People reported that Eugenie and Brooksbank's first time out in public since becoming parents was on April 17, for Philip's funeral. The guestlist of 30 people only comprised the closest royal family members, which naturally included many of his grandchildren. Eugenie had been very close to her grandparents, especially her grandmother Elizabeth, since she was young and deeply felt the loss of her grandfather. Among her many Instagram posts are pictures of her and her sister Princess Beatrice when they were young girls with their loving grandparents.
On April 14, 2021, Eugenie posted a tribute to Prince Philip in the form of a letter alongside a picture of her and her grandparents.
“Dearest Grandpa, We all miss you. You would be so touched by all the tributes that have been shared with me the past few days. People remember sitting next to you at a dinner, or shaking your hand once, who remember you saying hello in passing, or remember how much their DofE award meant to them,” she wrote.
“I remember learning how to cook, how to paint, what to read. I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy. I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day. I remember your hands and your laugh and your favourite beer,” she continued.
“I will remember you in your children, your grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thank you for your dedication and love for us all and especially Granny, who we will look after for you. With all my love, Eugenie,” she ended the heartfelt post.

Princess Eugenie also shared a touching tribute to her grandmother when she passed in Sept. 2022. In an Instagram post alongside a picture of her and her sister Beatrice in their youth with Queen Elizabeth II, Eugenie expressed her grief, also in the form of a letter.
“Our dearest Grannie, We've not been able to put much into words since you left us all. There have been tears and laughter, silences and chatter, hugs and loneliness, and a collective loss for you, our beloved Queen and our beloved Grannie. We, like many, thought you'd be here forever. And we all miss you terribly,” she wrote.
“You were our matriarch, our guide, our loving hand on our backs leading us through this world. You taught us so much and we will cherish those lessons and memories forever. For now dear Grannie, all we want to say is thank you. Thank you for making us laugh, for including us, for picking heather and raspberries, for marching soldiers, for our teas, for comfort, for joy. You, being you, will never know the impact you have had on our family and so many people around the world,” she continued.
“We're so happy you're back with Grandpa. Goodbye dear Grannie, it has been the honour of our lives to have been your granddaughters and we're so very proud of you. We know that dear Uncle Charles, the King, will continue to lead in your example as he too has dedicated his life to service. God save the King. With our love, Beatrice and Eugenie,” she ended the post.
Eugenie was present during her grandmother’s funeral processions, and on Sept. 17, 2022, alongside her cousins, including Prince William and Prince Harry, took part in a vigil of the Queen’s grandchildren at Westminster Hall.
To mark the occasion of Father's Day in 2021, Eugenie posted to her Instagram once again, this time honoring her husband with a series of photos.
The princess shared photos to her 1.6 million followers of how her husband had become the "ultimate father" to their adorable little kid. It would seem like the father and son have found their perfect bonding moment – sleeping together while he's all cuddled up in his dad's chest.
Father's Day is always a special day for dads out there – even those connected to the royal family – but especially so in 2021 for Brooksbank, who celebrated his first one as a dad.
Eugenie honored her husband on his first Father's Day by dedicating a special post to Brooksbank. Posting four photos, the first image showed Brooksbank pushing a pram with a big smile on his face, the second is of the young family smiling widely to the camera while Eugenie carries August in a sling, the third is of Brooksbank and August, while the last one is an adorable candid image of Brooksbank taking a nap while August does the same on his chest! The princess captioned her post:
“Happy Father's Day to you my love.. you are the ultimate father to our boy!! 😘"
On August’s first birthday in Jan. 2022, Eugenie honored her baby boy with another post, writing a caption that read “Happy 1st Birthday to our little hero Augie. You are such a special soul that brightens every room with your smile and wave. You have made us so very proud. We love you!” This was accompanied by two pictures of her son, one with her husband on a snowy mountain and the other of August with a label bearing his name stuck on his back.

The public became more enamored with Princess Eugenie’s little family after they finally let the world see baby August last Jun. 5, 2022, during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant. In August's first public appearance since he was born, he sported a sky blue sweater adorned with a Union Jack.
In another cute video, Eugenie captured an adorable moment when August was trying his best as he waved at the sight of the Jubilee Parade. Royals fans were enamored with his blonde hair, bright blue eyes and chubby cheeks. Many left comments on how adorable baby August was, as well as how much he resembled his mother.
“Oh my goodness, mummy's double,” one comment read, while another user wrote “Beautiful photos and video. Your son looks so like you.”
“Omg little August is absolutely gorgeous! His little wave is identical to his great grandmother’s and I love his little jumper,” another user commented.
Parenting expert Angela Karanja told Express she believed Princess Eugenie’s parenting style bodes well for baby August.
“I totally think she will continue being a fun mum. … Fun is freeing…fun is healing…fun is liberating, fun is life-giving. In addition, she’s with a husband who also loves to have fun. So, we have two peas in a pod, and I think it's just a beautiful symphony and their child is in for some fun moments,” Karanja said.
“As a royal and as well as someone who’s on social media, one thing I’ve noticed is Princess Eugenie is very public with her praise. This is towards her husband, her young son, and her mum. People who have the attitude of praising and complimenting others add flavour and life to others. … So, their son is fortunate to have a mother who freely praises and compliments,” she added.
