Princess Diana’s Brother Charles Spencer Ties The Knot For The 4th Time

For years, Charles Spencer’s personal life has often unfolded under intense public attention, especially whenever relationships and family matters entered the picture. Now, Princess Diana’s younger brother has quietly entered a new chapter.
PEOPLE confirmed that the 9th Earl Spencer, 61, married archaeologist and podcast co-host Professor Cat Jarman, 43, during a private ceremony in Arizona on May 15, 2026. The intimate wedding took place against the backdrop of Sedona’s Cathedral Rock, with photos showing a noticeably relaxed atmosphere compared to the grandeur typically associated with aristocratic weddings. Jarman wore a pale blue sleeveless gown with cutout detailing, while Charles opted for a dark suit paired with an open-collar light blue shirt.
In another image, Jarman smiled beside her new husband as they took a casual selfie. The marriage marks Charles’s fourth. He was previously married to Victoria Lockwood, Caroline Freud, and, most recently, Karen Spencer, whose divorce from him was finalized in late 2025 after 13 years of marriage. Charles shares seven children across his previous marriages, including 13-year-old Charlotte Diana with Karen. Jarman is also a parent, sharing two sons with her former husband. Professionally, the pair’s relationship developed gradually over several years. Charles first connected with Jarman after being asked to review her bestselling 2021 nonfiction book “River Kings,” which focused on Viking history and archaeology.
Their collaboration later expanded into archaeological projects and co-hosting “The Rabbit Hole Detectives” podcast alongside Rev. Richard Coles. By October 2024, Charles publicly acknowledged the relationship, simply telling The Times, “We are close.”

While Charles and Jarman’s wedding marked a new beginning, the road leading there was anything but quiet. Their relationship first became public amid the collapse of Charles’s marriage to Karen, eventually drawing legal disputes, public accusations, and widespread speculation into the spotlight.
In court filings submitted during the divorce proceedings, Karen accused Charles of having a “long-term” affair with Jarman while they were still married, allegations both Spencer and Jarman “categorically” denied. Tensions escalated further after Jarman filed a lawsuit connected to the disclosure of her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which she had kept private for years.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Jarman explained that she learned she had MS in 2016 while finishing her PhD and had deliberately chosen not to make the diagnosis public. According to her claim, Karen allegedly learned of the condition through a mutual acquaintance and later disclosed it to Charles and staff members at Althorp House. Karen denied liability, with reports from The Times stating she argued any mention of the diagnosis had been “entirely legitimate and justified.”
Despite the controversy surrounding them, Charles and Jarman continued blending both their professional and personal lives publicly through historical projects, archaeological digs, and podcast appearances. And, after years of evolving from colleagues into partners, the couple has spoken openly about what ultimately brought them together.
In a joint statement shared with PEOPLE following their wedding, they described the relationship in deeply personal terms.
“We both feel so incredibly lucky to have progressed from being colleagues, to friendship, to deep love and connection,” they shared.
And after everything that surrounded their relationship publicly, it was the final line of their statement that perhaps revealed the clearest picture of how they now see this chapter together.
“Each stage of our relationship has been underpinned by laughter and we share a passion for life.”
