Princess Diana's Twin Nieces Talk About Their 'Precious' Memories Of Her In Interview

Jul 23, 2021 by apost team

Princess Diana is still well-loved and remembered today for her contributions to society and her incredible sense of style. She was not only a celebrity in her home country of the UK but also around the world. Throughout her time as a princess, Diana was also the recipient of extreme public scrutiny, which added to the challenges of her already difficult private life.

Princess Diana would have turned 60 on July 1, 2021. Her memory is carried on by her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The brothers recently unveiled a statue of their mother to honor her on her birthday. Diana also lives on in the charity work and activism she dedicated her time to. The princess was interested in serious illnesses and health-related matters and was an advocate for those living with AIDS and leprosy.

Diana was born into British nobility and spent time with the royal family at the Sandringham estate while she was growing up. She was the fourth of five children born to John Spencer, Viscount Althorp, and Frances Spencer, Viscountess Althorp. Princess Diana grew up with her three siblings Sarah, Jane, and Charles. Her infant brother John passed away a year before Diana was born.

The princess's younger brother, Charles, has seven children of his own, including twins Eliza and Amelia Spencer. The twin girls were born July 10, 1922, and were only 5-years-old when Princess Diana passed away. They announced their move from South Africa to London in July 2021 and opened up about their memories of their Aunt.

The move was first announced by Amelia's fiancé, Greg Mallet, who is the nephew of former South African national rugby coach Nick Mallett. Greg shared a photo of himself and wrote on his Instagram post announcing the move: "My fiancé and I decided to relocate to the UK and are currently in transit in France! Whilst it may seem like we got lucky (in many ways, we did), moving countries is difficult."

The twin sisters have shared that they will be living only 20 minutes away from one another while in London. In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Amelia said, "It feels very exciting to finally have made the move. London will challenge and inspire us."

The girls are extremely close with one another, which is a common occurrence for twins. Eliza said, "We feel very lucky to have been born with a best friend. It's true what they say, there's such a unique bond between twins."

The sisters are especially excited about the social scene in London. "Kitty (their older sister) has always told us how much she particularly enjoys Wimbledon and the Serpentine Summer Party and we have always hoped to go. We are looking forward to our first London Fashion Week," shared Eliza.

Amelia and Eliza have wanted to move back to the UK for quite some time, so this move feels like a dream come true for the sisters. Eliza added, "Moving to a place like London will allow us to experience all the incredible events and opportunities that London has to offer."

Amelia and Eliza were still young children when their Aunt died in 1997. They have said that they have limited memories of Princess Diana. However, they still treasure what memories they have of spending time with her.

"Sadly we were very young when she passed away, we were only five," said Eliza. "Of course, I would have loved to have been able to spend more time with her. I do have some special memories of her. I can't explain why, but they've stuck very clearly in my mind."

Now, the girls are looking ahead and are very hopeful about what their lives have in store for them next. "We can't wait to see what the future holds," said Amelia. "I've always imagined I'd end up in the UK, it just took a little longer than I'd planned. We're thrilled to finally be here. For me, this is where my future is."

Both Amelia and Eliza are represented by Storm Model Management, which means they must share a love of fashion like their Aunt. They also followed in Princess Diana's footsteps by dedicating their time to charity. The twins are both ambassadors for the Little Princess Trust, which is an organization that helps provide wigs for children who have undergone treatment for cancer.

The sisters do everything together, not just their charity work. They are close friends and never get tired of each other's company. Eliza explained, "Wherever we go, our sibling bond is unbreakable. The future is bright and this is only the beginning."
